Need some part number help here

well, i tore apart my front suspension today to make way for some new stuff. i want to get a lot of this done now so i dont have to take it apart again.

i want to get new calipers, rotors, and brake pads. i called o reilly and they said a 67 (which is what i have) didnt have disc brakes up front, it only shows drums. he said he checked his book and nothing in our year range came up for disc brakes, i was thinking maybe its from another year but i know at some point during 67-72 there was disc brakes lol . so, can someone help me out with a part number for these rotors and calipers?

also, when i pulled off my spindle today, i noticed when it took the rotors off that they have a bearing in the middle. if i bought new rotors, do they come with this bearing?

im just looking for basic replacement parts, no performance or upgrade stuff needed here

Discs started in 71. You need to purchase the parts that are the correct match for the spindles you plan to use (71-72 or 73-87 spindles). The rotors use inner & outer bearings. The inner bearing is retained w/a seal which is what you prob are referring to.

ok. when I bought my spindles I ordered them for a 67, so I guess I need to order a 71-72 rotor. so for the calipers, I would ask for 71-72?

I would only be guessing as well.

I ordered spindles for my 68.... they were for a 73-87. Are the spindles you bought supposed to be a 'direct swap' allowing you to re-use your tie-rods & BJ's? I purchased 73-87 parts for mine because I confirmed w/the manufacturer that's what they needed.

Regardless, I'm fairly confident the calipers were the same from 71-87 (HD 1.25" version). The rotors might have different p/n's though but as long as you get the correct rotor for the spindle you should be good (1.25 or 1").

You can order 71-72 calipers,... but the 73-87 (HD 1.25") calipers are cheaper.
What brand of spindles do you have?

so will the 73 -87 calipers fit on a 72 drop spindle

well the part number I found myself is 81-60258 from o reilly for the rotors.

I ordered my spindles from cpp..for a 67.

and the balljoints I already pressed in were 67-70 in my 70 lca's. so the spindle should be right for my lca and uca..

73+ calipers, pn 18-4035 (R), 18-4036 (L) - 11.99 each

67 upper balljoint, pn K6024 - 14.99 each

67 lower balljoint, pn K6023 - 14.99 each (already installed)

and these are all house brand...

does this look about right?

You can even use the 73-87 HD rotors if you want. They are cheaper also.
Just make sure to get 1.25" rotors and calipers for 1.25" wide rotors.
I just tell the parts guy that I'm working on a '73 truck. Makes it easier for everyone.

haha...you guys couldnt be more right! i went through that when i was getting balljoints.

i didnt know 67-72 and 73+ suspension was that interchangeable.

well, i guess ill be getting 73+ rotors and calipers. thanks for the help fellas

the 67 and the 73 hoses look totally different, and the 67 one is half the price. 10.99 compared to 19.99

You need either 71-72 hoses or 73-87 (cheaper, but longer) hoses.
The longer 73+ hoses work good with bagged trucks.

hmm, will the 73+ hose fit my 67 truck? the ends of the hoses look different than the 67. im pretty sure they will fit the caliper since it will be a 73+ also...

maybe im lookin at the wrong part on oreillyauto.com

I used post-73 rubber lines w/post-73 hard lines on my 68 & plan to do the same w/my 64. The 73 rubber lines should also work well w/the pre-73 hard line set-up as lolife mentioned because they're slightly longer.

Sort of. The 73-87 hoses would work with 71-72 hard lines, but not 63-70 hard lines. If you will remember, 63-70 trucks used hard lines that run off the back side of the crossmember. There would be way too much hose length.

Now, 71-72 ran the hard lines across the front of the crossmember to tabs near the edge. The 73-87 hoses would likely be close enough in length to work. But, if running 71-72 hard lines, I like to buy 71-72 dually 1 ton front hoses. I get them from Kennys Trucks. The dually hoses are the exact same as 1/2 ton hoses but longer in length by an inch or so. That gives needed slack when the truck is lowered.

By far, the easiest way is to rob 73-87 hard lines front to back and use 73-87 hoses. The holes were even in the frame of my 63 truck for them. All I had to do was lay the 80 model lines in place and bolt them down. No mods needed at all. Then I run an 80 model master cylinder too so there was no fabrication or modification of the hard lines needed. I used all three replacement 73-87 brake hoses, even the back one worked perfect.

I've done multiple trucks this way. My current 'Dropmembered' 64 will use them as well.

hey, i think i will just go 73+ for everything. with that being said about the hard lines, does the 73+ suburban bolt right up to my 67?

i know you said it does for the trucks, but i forgot to mention mine is a suburban

There's no difference in the firewalls or front rails (burbs vs. trucks) so I wouldn't think there will be any issues.

what about the brake lines to the rear? or is this something totally different? i just assumed you guys were talking 73+ hard lines all the way to the back.

so its 73+ up front, then original hard lines to the rear?
