This is my '72 K5 I have been working on for the past 2 years. I didn't really dig the rollpan all white look but the engine, trans and body were all solid when I got it. The pic of the gas tank shows the quality of craftsmanship was having to deal with on some of the stuff. I have a Softopper top to install and an waiting on seat covers and it should be just about done. Definitely not a show truck, just something to bounce around in and have fun.

I think it looks damn good now - I would just drive it for now and enjoy it.

Interesting work there on the gas tank, did it ever leak?

Didn't really drive it to find out. I think that thing had more caulk than all the windows in my house. The things some people do. It was right up there with the masking tape that was used on the finger twisted wire splices.

Some people here say that we shouldn't bash previous owners, and I agree with that..... to a point. The tank and the wire splices just prove that if you don't know what you're doing, please don't do it. Ask someone who does know or do a little research on basic auto mechanics. Glad to see you caught those possible catastrophes and fixed them. Good lookin truck! Really like the black around the grille.

A few more pics. I swapped the 3" body lift for a 4" suspension and a 1" body. All new steering, tilt column, gauges. Probobaly should have just torn it down to the frame.

As far as tearing it down to the frame... if your going to drive it off road, DONT tear it all down to the frame.

I used 1" steel spacers with grade 8 hardware. The 1" is just enough for the seat mounts to have enough clearance to work. It seemed alot easier than boxing out the floor and it feels super solid.

Looks real nice and no don't ever tear it down to the frame if you want to drive it, lol. I still haven't drove mine, lol. I've got the same seat problem you do, two different colors. Nice seat covers like Wet Okole would be cool but then the seat belts will still be different. I'm going to just run what I got for awhile and be happy.

I kept thinkin and thinkin of a way to do it without boxin the floor. I got the spacers from Lowes. They are steel that is about 1/8"+ thick. The seat still sits nice and low to the floor. I think I am going with the Wet Okole seat covers, mainly because they seem pretty water resistant. I would hate to think how long it would take for these suckers to dry if they were out in a good ole summertime dumper. Please excuse the sloppy welds, I was in a hurry and and wanted to get it done.

Third row seat out of an '00 Tahoe. Picked it up on Craigslist for $150. They usually go pretty cheap.

Great looking K5. I really dig the back seat. I was intending to do Tahoe seats in mine as well but didn't know that there were one piece third row seats. In my 01 they were 2 independent seats. I like what you put in much better.
