Re: 48 gmc 5 window how much is too much
I wouldn't. Not in that condition. By the looks of the body with all the rot, I be suspect on how the rear end would hold up. 125 miles is pretty far to tow with out a flat bed. Remember theres other people on the road.

Re: 48 gmc 5 window how much is too much
After really looking at the pics you posted. I'd honestly pass on this truck (but that's just me) Your looking at a lot of work & money. Might not be a good deal after everything is said and done. If it does have a clear title and vin plate...that might be worth picking up. But not the whole truck. Sorry to be negative.

Re: 48 gmc 5 window how much is too much
$200 is fine. The clear title is worth that and still a ton of parts off of it. If the radiator support and the latch plate is there, I'm sure you could sell that if the rest doesn't work out. Frame could scrap for $200.

As they say, what he wants and what he gets are two separate things.

Re: 48 gmc 5 window how much is too much
Those old kerosense pot flares on the drive side bed are probably worth something to a stock restorer type. I once sold some 40's safety reflectors I got at a yard sale for a buck for $50 on ebay because they had a 40's date stamped on them. Like said above, if there are rare not reproduced parts they should be worth the $200.

Since he is your cousin I would say just take it and say you would give him 100 bucks and a ride when you get it done

Re: 48 gmc 5 window how much is too much
I'd honestly say that the only reason I would even consider buying that one is for the title. There just isn't enough truck there to make it worth more than the 200 that several suggested and like many said, 100 of that is because it has a title.
There is what would have been a $500+ bare 52/53 five window cab for sale locally that had the roof sawed off in a messed up attempt at a chop. No rust to speak of no dents in the body except one in the roof and original paint on all of it 150.00 but you have to weld it back together. I just bought two big AD truck cab and chassis for 100 and had to cut one up and hauled the cab home on my boat trailer and will tow the other one home next week. That one will become a half ton flatbed with the 350/350 that is in my 71 in it and I am considering just shortening the frame instead of swapping frames. Simply because it may be a lot easier to tell the dmv that I swapped axles under the truck to much lighter axles to make a pickup out of it and want to reduce the weight rating. Trucks are out there that are in a lot better shape than that one, you just have to hunt them out but I'd still buy it for the title if he came down far enough on the price. Save the inner windshield surround as well, they don't make them aftermarket.

Re: 48 gmc 5 window how much is too much
I picked up a 59 in the same condition for $180. Made $1200 parting it out, and still kept the parts i needed for my 55
