Stupid question
How many times should I feel my 700R4 shift? 4 or 5? I'm only feeling 4.

Re: Stupid question
you will only have 3 shifts plus the converter lock, which isn't as noticeable as a gear change.
Edit: Oops, like longhair stated, 4 gears = 3 shifts

Re: Stupid question
There are really only 3 shifts.....
you start in 1st gear...shift to 2nd, shift to 3rd, shift to 4th

Re: Stupid question
Just like Longhair says
1 2 shift= 1 shift 2 3 shift= second shift 3 4 shift= third shift TCC engage, while not an actual shift and may not be "feelable", would be your fourth shift. As I said you may not feel it, but if you have a tach, you'll be able to see an eng speed reduction. Jim

Re: Stupid question
I'm wondering if the converter is actually locking.

Re: Stupid question
ppbr, like I said above, look at the tach. If you don't have one use any tool that has one incorporated. Get truck up over 40 MPH, you should be in lock-up by then. Just touch the brake pedal enough to turn brake lites on, watch the tach, the RPM should go up, then release the brake and watch again, the RPM should go down. Work the brake pedal with your left foot while keeping speed steady with your right foot. If you don't see what I described, TCC isn't working. Jim

Re: Stupid question
if you feel 4 shifts, and the trans shifts 3 times plus going into lockup on the converter... then what about it do you think isn't working?
