Rear dropmember with a stepside…
A few years ago, my grandpa gave me a truck that his father bought brand new in 1968. I was originally planning to use a short/wide bed, but I've recently decided I'd like to keep as much of the original truck as I can. However, it was a long/step and I'm considering cutting the bed down. My questions are: has anyone done this before? Are the long and short step fenders the same? Can I lay the frame down with a 285/35/22 with a step side (which I believe is a little taller than 29 inches using a rear 4 link bolt-on dropmember)?

Re: Rear dropmember with a stepside…
the step fenders are the same, the only difference was the step ... if the wheel you plan on running is much more than 8"-9" wide then you are going to have to do something in way of a mini-tub on the inside of the bed to keep from rubbing.
not alot of room under those cool stepside fenders once you air the bag out ... good luck and be sure to post pics Last edited by Shane; 05-07-2010 at 08:59 AM. |

Re: Rear dropmember with a stepside…
I would cut twenty inches out of the middle. This way you only have one seam in the middle of the bed, and you cut some of that out when you add the wheelwells. You will have to fill and re-drill some fender mounting holes though. Ask me how I know? Good Luck!

Thanks, Justin I can't wait to get started on this project. It's been sitting for way to long. |
