Stupid trim rings on side marker lights keep falling off. Ideas on Glue?

Hey guys,

I recently switched out my side markers on my 72 to the clear lens deluxe style marker lamps with the two rectangle chrome trim rings. Well .I had them on for about a week, and three of the four lost one or both of the trim rings. Then two days later, the forth one lost one if its rings.

Classic Parts sent me out 3 new ones but now I have to call them back and ask for a fourth. My question is, have you guys dealt with this, and if so, what type of glue do you recommend to avoid this next time.

I am going to pull each trim piece off and re-glue them.

I had one that kept coming loose, I put it back on with crazy glue.It has held for about a year.

Re: Stupid trim rings on side marker lights keep falling off. Ideas on Glue?

crazy glue/super glues are a good way to mess up the lenses.
I would maybe try a glue gun, or a two part epoxy.
I got lucky on my repro lenses (colored, not clear). I only lost one 'ring' and that was after an encounter with a mailbox.
Have I mentioned how much I despise curb mounted mailboxes?

I just bought some used ones and the rings are nice and tight. Why can't the repros be made to last?

contact cement. Cheap, easy, and effective. Brush some on the back side of the trim and where they go on the lens. Wait 15 min. - 30 min. and stick both pieces together. Boom, problem solved. Trevor

Re: Stupid trim rings on side marker lights keep falling off. Ideas on Glue?

I find them scattered up and down my gravel road. For a while there I was taking them back to the place or purchase. The first thing I do now is pull them off and glue them all. You got to love "Made In China" crap!!!

I am going to have a couple trim rings left over between the replacements lamps they sent me and the old ones. Let me know, if you need one or two, you can have my left over ones.

This is what I have been told...the repops marker lights with trim will have this issue due to the manufacturing process. Thats why I bought NOS Deluxe marker lights. The trim will not fall off. They are still available. Just my two cents worth. Its interesting that some repop stuff is equal to or better than factory parts while other stuff is not.

We have used that to.
Like many products out there they are continually improving there formulas and what you used five years ago could work better this year. Loctite(Hinkle Corp) has improved most all of there products this year.

Inner fenders and rocker panels are a couple. JMHO That's a good question and a possible new thread topic.

Just about anything Mar-k makes is better than oem. We do body work and You would be suprised how many gouges and dents were on older vehicles straight from the factory.Plus many parts were made in different stamping plants in the USA they did not all come out the same back then. Today is a different story with improved stamping methods and equipment. We justr did a late model Ford this past week and we had to get the Ford rep out cause we could not get the factory panels to fit corrrect. He agreed with us and never could figure out why. Just cause its factory does not mean its perfect.

Some still fit better than others even today.
