new shop truck

What's up guys, My name is Tim. I've spent most of my time on the 73-87 side. i currently have a 87 crew cab dually and a 84 3/4 big block truck. I've been looking for something older with some style. i love rat rods, patina and seeing old rusty trucks lowered. anyway

Its a 1961 long bed fleet side. its all original 1 owner truck that's been sitting in a barn in Iowa for the last 20 years. only 68k miles. it has a big block v6 305 with three on the tree.

i haven't actually seen the truck yet cause i bought it off ebay and the pics were terrible.

i will update this thread with pics once it gets delivered to me in south florida.

plains are to give it a cheap static drop, and get it running good, some white walls. reupholster the bench seat. a good cleaning and start driving it.

here are a couple pics. sorry for the big tease but i'm anxious to get it here i figure you guys can be in anticipation with me.

Looks like a nice truck...how much did you have to shell out for it?

Certainly does look untouched. Even has an original outside mirror head. Looking forward to the progress photos.

Re: new shop truck

Congrats on the new purchase and welcome to this forum.

Looks like a nice straight truck. Hopefully it is relatively rust free as well.

Hey guys here is an update, the 61 is on its way. It will Still probably be close to a week before it gets to south florida. The transporter is not taking a direct route. here is a terrible pic that the previous owner took from inside his house. the suspense continues.

Thats cool, i was in lake worth close to downtown ("B" and Lucerne) but moved up to stuart a couple months ago to be closer to family. I'm glad to be out of WPB plus i got a lot bigger shop now.

there is a car show up this way every tuesday in jensen beach mall parking lot. cars must be 1980 or older so I'm excited to get the 61 out there. the show usually has about 100 cars. alot of shinny paint jobs and chrome and some rats too. I have not seen any 60-61 trucks out there.

"KNEE KNOCKER" I admit i had to google that but it makes sence.

Re: new shop truck

Well after much anticipation the old GMC has completed her 1,500 mile journey and is now in my possession. this is a good running old truck. it does have a lot more rust than i expected from an Iowa truck also the previous owner lead me to believe there was minimal rust but it is in all the usual places. rockers, cab floor, the bed is very strait with very little rust. it has the original wood bed and some rotten wood but not that bad.

I've been doing some maintenance this week to get the old girl in shape. oil and oil filter, spark plugs, set timing, adjust idle, the gas tank is currently out cause as you might expect i picked up some rust in the tank but not a big deal. i also got some 80's 4x4 wheels from a buddy of mine. picked up some new bfg's for the rear. was planning to go www but i'm on a budget.

ok on with the pics, all comments are welcome

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks
