Painted Rally wheels

Im about to redo a set of Factory rally wheels and I am trying to decide if I want to match the truck color or go back with the factory grey. Anyone have any pics of painted rally wheels that match the truck color?

Re: Painted Rally wheels

Granted I am going to do a two tone with white on bottom and on the roof, red everywhere else. Otherwise, I feel it is too much red if the truck is all red and wheels are red as well. Painting the wheels sets off a two tone to me, but goes overboard if truck is a solid color. That is simply my opinion though, everyone has one. Ultimately it is what you like

It was funny when I painted them. I did it on a weekend and when my painter seen them on monday his words were "wow, did you just grab red off the shelf? that color looks better." All I did was mix the factory color, the red on the poor old truck is so far gone it is very very dark.

Re: Painted Rally wheels

I went a different route with color, I wanted the wheels to be the color of the "accent" color that I went with. The truck will be flat black with grabber green pin stripes.

Re: Painted Rally wheels

when you go to do a set of wheels, what is the best process to use for prep work? My wheels are currently black, and Id like to go back with either a gloss black, or argent gray. I dont want it to come out looking bad two weeks after its finished.

I'd say to have them sand blasted if at all possible, they are a huge pain in the a** to sand. Add some etching primer, them sandable primer of your choice, add paint and you are done. Base/clear works just fine to paint wheels, should last as long as the paint on the truck if you prep them right!

Re: Painted Rally wheels

Oh and that is a shot of the "high" side bc the passenger side sits 1" higher than the driver side for some reason. I haven't looked into it yet but it drives me nuts when I look at it!!

Thanks. I'll get it back together eventually--hopefully. I've got most of the parts, just need the time. Oh, and less projects.

I hope the masses aren't getting tired of this pic. I wish it looked like this:

old chop I did awhile back. I should go back in and fix a couple of things, if I'm gonna keep posting this.

Cool Re: Painted Rally wheels

Here's a few pix.. if your still interested.. My dad had 10' deep rally's, but when i got the truck.. I couldn't afford the fat set of tires to replace on em.. so i opted to go bck to original...can you believe I found a set (off of two different trucks of course) from a junk-yard... with caps for 100 bucks. I scuffed em and found a matching paint color (spray can) from AutoZone... not too shabby.. huh?

Re: Painted Rally wheels

I just put mine on today. When I got the truck it had wheel covers on it. The rally's I picked up needed repainting anyway so I decided to match the truck trim color. The center cap emblems had no paint left on them so I decided to try painting them too. I'm too impatient to mask them off perfectly but it's good enough for me.

I did a photoshop of the wheels and headlight surrounds. Copyright goes to Keith Seymore from this board for the truck pic.

What do you think?
