1952 chevy home made frame build
My dad and I are building a 1952 chevy 5 window truck. It did not come on the stock frame it was on something else that a PO hacked up and put together with flat stock. We began this a year ago and have been on the board looking at the builds and have agreed to start our own thread.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
Well the body looks really nice. Are you building another frame to replace the hacked one from the PO?

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
Yes we are we have already completed the frame and are now fitting up suspension components from a c4 corvette. We were trying to decide whether to go the s10 route or build our own frame and find the rear end and front suspension seperately. Luckily we found a steal of a deal on a 1986 corvette and since the truck didnt have a motor we took the engine, transmission, and the front and rear out.
Here are the pics of the frame. |

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
We picked up some inner fenders today as the ones on the truck were cut up to fit the frame they threw together. Had to drive an hour. Found them on ebay for $30 a piece. Still trying to locate a radiator support in good condition somewhere in southern CA. If there are any leads out there it would be very helpful or else we will have to pay the price from brothers.
Thanks responses and opinions are very grateful. |

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
I'd seriously look at making your own core support. If you mount the cab, fenders, and hood you can take 100 measurements and build one. Thats how I did it.

Cajundragger: Do you have any pictures and info on how you built your core support? I have gone through your build and you got a sweet ride but i just remember that you mentioned you built your own not any info about it.
58 patch: Yes it is a Dana 36 got it out of a 1986 corvette |

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
Thanks. I'm about to pick up one out of a 1984. What materials/solvents did you use to clean it up?

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
We used an orange degreaser from Home Depot i do not remember what the brand was but it worked easily with a couple wire toothbrushes that worked great.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
Worked om the truck today we cleaned up the rear end more since it is still filthy and was unbolted from the frame because we were painting the rear section of the frame. Then remounted it in looks really good. Went to our storage spot and picked up the motor and trans to begin cleaning it up because it looks like it was spewing oil and nobody ever cleaned it out.We know it runs and there is no leaks when we pulled it out. Pics from progress.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
Have been working on replacing the driver side floor board got it tacked in. Will finish welding it out tomorrow. We inserted a piece of inch and 1/2 by 3/4 channel that will act as the support in the middle of the floor to replace the bench seat support.
Also test fitted the engine to determine where the mounts should be located. We will not have to make a hump in the floor where the transmission sits so it will be a flat floor. Pics. |

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
When making a custom frame do you have to get it inspected or can you just use the title from the truck frame.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
Have been to work on the truck again we got the floor ripped out to the rear seat support. Put some more channel into place for strength then laid some 16 gauge over the top. Here are some pics. and how about the idea of a custom bed also. oh yah also filled some holes on the firewall.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build
Upadate an this past weeks work. So we had to ditch the idea of using the Cadillac Deville seats because my dad and I are both over 6 foot and the seats were to big in the back. So I found some seats off of Craigs list from a 1999 Honda. We made a sturdy frame and set them in then thought well maybe the center console from the cadillac will fit. so we ended up widening the frame to fit the center console and there it was our Cup holders. Also it adds a third seat.
