Door Handles....?
Hi All. my Driver's side exterior door handle bit the dust as I went to go to the store on Saturday and I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around paying $33 - 40 per side for pot metal.
Does anyone have anyone have any resources for buying a reasonably priced door handle, short of going to the junkyard?? Thanks! As a P.S. When you're on these parts sites and they say "RH door handle, are they referring to the driver's side? I always get confused?!!!!!" lol) |

Re: Door Handles....?
$25 membership will get you better parts. If you want cheap, buy any of the aftermarket ones. Most are junk. You can post a WTB (want to buy) thread in the parts section and more than likely someone will sell you a decent set of used OEM handles.

Re: Door Handles....?
I may have some good used ones that came off my 72. I have replaced them for some new repo ones & don't even know why ok wait the PO had bought new ones for it. Let me check when I get home. What side will you be needing? You could also give Bill at Vintage chevy trucks here in fremont a call 510-651-5874,I know he will have some good ones too and it aint that far 20min from pleasanton.
Ok never mind just read your post you need the driver side,I'll check.

Re: Door Handles....?
Classic has them for $50 for the pair - bought some for the truck I'm restoring now & they look very good & are really heavy - don't know if that means anything, they could just be full of Chinese lead..................

Re: Door Handles....?
You don't have to pay anything to buy something off the parts board - no worries.

Re: Door Handles....?
This is one of those parts it seems - repops haven't figured out the pot metal tabs... sorta depends on your need... good originals and or used, or shiny repops that may be weak at the button-spring retainer. Most repop shops will stand behind there products if there are any troubles. Our local shop sells individuals (left or right) for 29.50 (FS-515), or a pair for 49.50 (TR-202) 1 800 841-6622. Gotta get a lefty myself... hahah tired of fishing for the release.. Good luck!

Re: Door Handles....?
the truck shop in cali sells a pair for 37 bucks. if you spend 250 bucks you get free shipping, otherwise it will still cost you up to $50 with shipping. i bought a pair for my 72 burb and thinking for the price i should just get another pair and keep the extra drivers side one for a rainy day (gets the most wear and tear anyway). all the chrome except the bumpers on my truck are flaky/pitted badly.

Re: Door Handles....?
It means to patch and fill and smooth the door handle area and then install your choice of door opener. Looks nice when done one some trucks, but far to much work for my lazy self.

Re: Door Handles....?
Oh! sounds interesting...sounds extremely involved-how would the inner linkage connect (or would you have to completely redo that as well)?

Re: Door Handles....?
I do believe you redo the innards of the door as well, my cousin was doing this to a sqare body a while back and put poppers in, If you want I can ask him whats involved.

Re: Door Handles....?
Hey...How about the "Inside" pot metal ones I've bought from "convienence" parts stores. They're pretty much short term junk. They round out on the inner splines (window cranks) or just break off like mine did for the doors.
sez to wife... (here honey use the crank off my side....there you go)
