Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
So earlier in the week we posted the bolt on ifs, airbag system..
I know we mentioned the Coilover IFS, but it can be hard to picture without....well, pictures!! Here's a few shots. The *****in thing about the coilover set-up is that my cost on a set of coilovers v. a set of bags/shocks is nearly the same, so no matter which way you order it, it'll be the same price. Not sure if jephs422 covered any pricing yet, but as we sit right now the plain package is complete at $2895 W/ power or manual rack. That is complete hub to hub with your choice of 5 on 4.5 or 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern. The brake system is going to be the only real functioning upgrade. Sure you can get stainless arms, polished coil-overs, etc..but for function, the brakes are going to be one of the deciding factors on your bolt pattern, rim size, etc. I'll add some more pictures here in a bit. |

Re: Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
Wish I had the cash. That would look freaking sick under the front of my truck with the 6.0 swap and all. Nice looking product. Need anyone to do some R&D type stuff???

Re: Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
Justin's right, we've done those before. Just know that when we do that bolt pattern, we end up having to run all 1 ton stuff. Obviously we have to redesign the entire suspension, which is absolutely not a big deal. However, the price on parts goes WAY up. 1 ton spindles, brakes, ball joints...are very spendy, and then we get to pass the savings on to you, LOL!!

Re: Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
We will be doing a group buy on this bolt-on ifs and we also have this in a airbag
version as well for the same price.Let us know how many guys might consider this. If we get enough interest we will have a nice group discount to go with it. Justin |

Would love to have that sitting under the front of my truck but the price is way more than I would consider.

Re: Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
Just noticed, lookslike a pretty sharp angle on that upper ball joint for the suspension to be unloaded. How is it when full weight is resting on it?

Re: Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
Maybe I should have elaborated. I wasn't saying it wasn't competitive with similar offerings. My truck, like most squares in decent shape, is probably a 3k truck...when I get the motor back in anyway. If I had a truck as awesome as say 1972SuperCheyenne's 86 the price wouldn't be nearly as huge an issue for me.

Re: Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
Please excuse my ignorance on this subject but what would be the advantage of a setup like this. I can understand if you had the one with air bags but wouldn't this just be like a static drop with the coil overs? I am new to all of this.

The main advantage is going to plain and simply be an increase is PROPER handling, roll center, ride comfort, etc. When we build these, we spend a lot of time and engineering in making sure that the suspension that goes under that vehicle is 100% correct for that particular set up. Meaning, that the camber/caster gain is correct. The steering characteristics are optimal, and that it is all set up and designed to work at whatever ride height is finally achieved. The stock suspension (like almost ALL OEM suspensions) are designed as a middle road/optimal ride/minimal service type of front end. It is a truck first and foremost, so GM didn't exactly plan the suspension geometry to handle like a car, much less a sporty car. Taking a stock suspension and simply lowering it will only achieve in lowering your CG, and upsetting what would be proper geometry for that suspension. Make sense at all?

Nice setup Scott! Do you have any options on the R&P as far as ratio?

Re: Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
That piece is beautiful! I would certainly be interested in the bags/shocks version if I could reuse my McGaughy drop spindle...as I already have their 13" big brake kit w/ spindle . Would that be feasible?

Re: Scott's Hotrods Bolt in IFS...coilover edition
Sorry, we don't do any kits with that spindle/brake set-up. All of our kits are based on in-house specs, and when we attempt to use those spindles, ball/joints combo's, the retro fit just doesn't work out effectively. Don't get me wrong, it can be done, what you will spend in the cost for the "custom" application, will already have more than paid for a new set of brakes.
