64 heater box question

The 64-66 heater core for the Thrift air is shown in the LMC catalog as being 7 1/4" and the deluxe core is 9 1/2" long. Both are shown to be 2 1/2" tall and 6 3/8" wide.
It looks like the bigger core would fit in the Thrift air heater box and need just a little trimming of the top plate.
It appears be be an indent for cutting in the second picture for the longer core .
Any body tried putting in a bigger deluxe core for the thrift air?
Are the heater boxes the same for the deluxe and the thrift air?
Any improvement in the heating abilities?
The existing core is leaking so I need to replace it anyway.

Re: 64 heater box question

Thanks Dave -I thought it would fit but hoped somebody might have tried it.
-Is your 66 a "thrift air" heater with a single combo knob and fan switch or a "deluxe" with multiple levers/cables--
-- thanks Bubba

Re: 64 heater box question

It appears Shucks/ Oreilly has both cores shown on their website . Looks like I have to call the store tomorrow and check on availability and price .
I wish I had a deluxe heater but I will wait until I can have AC also... thanks again for your help Dave

Re: 64 heater box question

I'm in need of a core and found one that is the longer version. What is the upside of having a bigger core? More heat?

Re: 64 heater box question

It has plenty of heat output. My inline six warms up quick and the heater has worked really good through it's second winter. No complaints about the amount of heat, it will over heat you after a while and you have to turn the fan speed down .
I dont know it it has more heat than a smaller core, I pulled the smaller core because it was leaking and the blower motor was shot .
I would go for the larger one again.
