72 swb, 454/t400, complete resto
Hello everyone, I have been reading and researching here for a while now and its time to start my project thread. I have a 72 c10 that I have owned for 13 years. It is the first vehicle Ive owned. Funny part is it has yet to see the road. Thats all about to change
![]() Its orig. a straight 6, 3 on the tree, stepside, bare bones truck. Someone has done rockers and cab corners before, and hacked in a B.S. aftermarket sunroof. I am going to look at a stockpile of NOS parts local to me on saturday; If all goes well I will have: 2 fleetside bed sides -NOS Front bed panel bed floor 2 door shells -NOS 2 fenders-NOS hood-NOS rocker panels-NOS tailgate- NOS roof - off of 72' cheyenne special I have a low mile 454/t400 from a 75 camper special with an edelbrock intake, dynomax ceramic coated longtube headers, full gasket set, new timing chain, oil pump kit, and oil pan; I might put a cam in it, un decided yet. I have a complete 4.3 serpentine setup I plan on installing, along with the power brakes, HVAC, and column from a 90 s10 blazer. I also have a power steering box (new) correct for the truck. I will be installing an air ride, 18 or 20" wheels, and painting everything all hopefully before the end of the summer. I plan on making a few shows/cruise nights with it this year! Follow along, I will be loading this thread with pics as I go! hopefully the fun will start this weekend. Thanks, Pat |

I also forgot to mention that I will be switching to the older 67/68 nose as well. I am going early in the morning to check out the body panels, hopefully I can get a good deal on em'! I ordered a tranny crossmember and motor mount stands last night, as well as an adjustable trac bar. I am trying to figure the cheapest route to go about converting the rear to disc as well. I have only 5k to play with, I will be doing all the work myself, I work at a bodyshop also so paint material should cost next to nothing!! I have almost everything to get started on the motor, and I need to get the airride here to start work on the chassis. There's a few spots that need attention on the frame, the front horns are a little swayed and the rear shock crossmember needs replacing since it's rotted (after all it is a new England truck) I will probably end up making a tubular crossmember anyway.
Thanks, Pat |

Well I made out alright. He had 2 new gm bedsides, but wanted 1800 each and I think that's a bit too pricey for this project. I ended up with a very good bed floor, a right bedside, a tailgate, both wheeltubs, right door, left fender, and a radiator support. All panels are in exceptional shape, very little bodywork will be required, and there's hardly even any surface rust. I am happy, and 2grand in the hole. Last night I ordered an aluminum radiator, reverse rotation waterpump, cooling fans, bracket kit to make the 4.3 serp belt setup bolt on to the big block, and a few other small odds and ends. I need a left bedside, and a front bed panel. I may order the airride this week also.
