Who has them for the stake beds? I saw them at Brother's for the early ones, but not the '60+

if you have the real blue dots they are glass about the size of a nickle maybe alittle bigger but what they do is make your tail lights look purple but a nice shade of purple. the plastic blue dots to me anyways dont get a nice color purple

Re: blue dots

stake bed? are you meaning stepside? because the step used the same light 55-66, also you should be able to just buy the dot and put it in whatever lens you have, try http://www.thenightprowlers.com
my 2003 catalog from them has the glass bluedot and chrome bezel for $6.00 a pair, (might need to adjust for inflation)

Re: blue dots

Most Harley shops keep them in stock in glass (as mentioned, stay away from plastic) if you want to cut your old lens and make them yourself.
And, they have to be installed directly in front of your bulb filament to work correctly.
When installed right, they're not noticeable when the tail lights are lit, but glow purple when the brake light / turn signal is on.

Re: blue dots

Is the purple color better or more desireble than standard red, or is it something to just be diffferent?

jbgroby I think that because there illegal in most states they are more desirable to some outlaws and hot-rodders. Some like to push the envelope or the police as it may be. I do think they are purty though but glass dots only....Vernski

Re: blue dots

It's just old school. As far as I know, they were first used in 1949 Ford cars as a factory option. The 49's had glass tail lights and of course the blue dots were glass too. 49 Fords were (and still are) so popular for hot rods.

Re: blue dots

Most of your auto parts stores sell just the dots and trim themselves in the auto accessories section. You'll have to drill your own holes, but they will work.

Re: blue dots

a lot of states allow the blue dots on the older cars these days... but it varies state to state as to what the cut off date is.

I have been behind vehicles with blue dots and they seem to attract the eye a lot more to me... they look cool.

Re: blue dots

I've ran blue dots on my truck for @14 years now and never had a problem. I used to have the plastic ones but 2 years ago I found some glass ones. The glass ones look so much better. They make for more brilliant color. All you need to do is drill a 15/16 hole put the dots in and twist the 4 tabs to hold the dot and houseing in. They look great on our style of truck.

Just fallow the linky. But blue dots are all I would get from them. They are high dollar for inferior products, "sheet metel products". http://www.classicchevroletparts.com/

Re: blue dots

I have them on my '71 and my Dad has them on his '55 210 Delray, '57 3100 & his '65 Corvair Conv. I have had them on my truck for many years and have never had a problem from the lawmen. I just like the way they look.

Re: blue dots

In Idaho if it's a 65 and older the dot's are ok, but that's just here-say I haven't confirmed it with anyone official. I just don't think they pay much attention to it unless they want a reason to pull you over. I had a 77 step-side I drove around for years that had dot's and never was stopped, but that could have been just been good luck...Vernski

Re: blue dots

Re: blue dots

I have run them for many years, only got pulled over one time not for that....here`s a quick veiw from Calif law.

legal equipment most often cited by the CHP.
Loud car stereo. Illegal if heard more than 50 feet from the vehicle
(27007 VC).
Lack of front and rear DMV-issued license plates
(5200 VC).
Radar jammers. Radar detectors are legal, but jammers, or any device which interferes with radar signals, are illegal (28150 VC).

Illegal...
Lowered frame (or any other part) that is lower than the lowest point of the wheel rim (24008 VC).
* Air and hydraulic suspension systems that are operated unsafely or with the vehicle lower than allowed (24002, 24008 VC).
* Tinting the front side windows and the windshield (except for a narrow band at the top of the windshield). Windows behind the driver's head may be tinted. If rear window is tinted, right-side mirror is required (26708 VC).
* Lack of white rear license plate light (24601 VC). It must illuminate the license plate, not project light behind the vehicle.
* Missing front and/or rear bumpers (28071 VC).

Illegal engine modifications. Most are illegal due to smog (27156 VC). See Air Resources Board web site for more info and list of parts that are legal.

Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC). Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.
* Headlights brighter or higher wattage than those from the factory. You may be able to see better, but the lights are illegal (24011 VC).
* Tail lights other than red (24600 VC).
* Illegal brake lights. Brake lights on vehicles newer than 1979 must be red (24603 VC). (Vehicles older than 1979 may be red or yellow.)
* Lack of rear reflectors. Two red reflectors are required on the rear of cars and trucks (24607 VC).
* Incorrect color of turn signal. It must be white or yellow to the front, red or yellow to the rear (24953 VC).

Red lights to the front. They are illegal except on emergency vehicles (24003 VC). This is one way to get pulled over very quick!

* Tail lights that incorporate a bulb with a red tint or coating. In general, custom tail lights that incorporate a clear outer shell and red inner lens are legal (24011 VC). If they don't incorporate reflectors, they must be added to the vehicle (24607 VC).

Tail lights that are too dim, washed out or show yellow, white or other colors (24600 VC). Ugly anyway

Re: blue dots

Thread Resurrection time.....

I have some Blue Dots stashed away in the garage, gave Martin a pair last night as well.

Question is, does anyone else run them on their trucks, and do you have pis of them installed?
