I still cant get auto meter gauges to stick to cluster

I bought a full set of auto meter sport comp gauges... I pretty much just have my outter gauge cluster and im trying to jb weld, epoxy the gauges to the back circles so they sit behind the cluster but nothing i find is sticking, any ideas??
Ive tried JB weld and Plastic Cement 3500psi strength.
The outer ring on the gauges lookr to be aluminum??? And the cluster is obviously some type of plastic.

have you tried here in tj its called kola loca shuold it be crazy glue

Plain old hot glue might work as well...I have used it for lots of things and it impresses me everytime...

I've used hotmelt glue before on guages. Just scuff up the back of the panel first. It also works great for holding wires in place. Don't use the low temp stuff.

All i have is the outter shell, that other process cannot be done and looks so much more time consuming i rather just glue them in and put it back in, in a matter of minutes.

If your in that big of a hurry, better use duct tape. Seriously, if it's worth doing, its worth doing it right.

lol, yup tru that. You can pick up a used gauge bezel complete usually for like $20-$30 at a local swap meet or online somewhere. Especially if it's all F'ed up and the gauges don't work.....'cause all you need is the hardware from the back. my 2 cents...otherwise good luck with the glue and tape

Don't see how i could use tape other wise i would plus that wouldn't give it a secure fit.
I am not really looking for a glue, more like an epoxy/weld for plastic&aluminum.

I'VE DONE A COUPLE OF I.P.s WITH AUTO-METER GAGES. I ALWAYS PUT THEM IN FROM THE FRONT & SECURED THEM WITH THE HORSHOE TYPE CLAMPS THAT CAME WITH THE GAGES. I UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S NOT EXZACKLY WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO DO... BUT MAYBE IT'S A BETTER ALTERNATIVE THAN GLUE OR TAPE. JOHN http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...9&d=1073868208

Same here. The bezels of the gauges slide into the IP just right & a little tight. It looks cleaner too.

Here is a pic of the one in my 68. I just slid them in from the from and used the clamps like john said. Turned out great IMO.

they don't attached to the plastic face bezel ... they attach to the metal "box" that the original gases are attached/made on to.

you are about to ruin an entire set of gauges if you use JB Weld/Super Glue or some other half-ass method of attaching.

i've done them both ways shane... Just the bezel (i did put a aluminum faceplate over the bezel, but i'm sure it would work without one too) & cut right thru the metal innards of a stock cluster also. Lighten up.. This guy appears to be just learning. john

This is what I am trying to do and I have the phantom gauges. My question is where did you guys find the 3-3/8" Phantom gauge? I have searched high and low, including the AutoMeter web site and can't find one in that size. Are they no longer made maybe? Help??

yup, discontinued. I've seen people put in a 2 5/8 clock there, but looks horrible. I found a NOS Phantom 3 3/8" gauge on ebay...I got super lucky.

There is a new product on the market called RTV / Silicone. Works great on holding together fishtanks, bathroom enclosures, sealing windows. Actually i would go to the home improvement store and look at the silicone adhesives. Odds are there is something there that will meet you needs. I would use the hot glue to place them then add a bead of silicone around each one and let cure up. Nice thing it comes in different colors so if you have a small gap you can hide it.

If you really want to glue them in, Loctite makes a product called "PLASTIX" $5.68 at lowes or similar. It will flex yet is super tough- used it to reinstall a end cap in a old ball bat for a kid not long ago- kid was using it in high school varsity games and it is still good to go. You have a 20 minute window to work in, and it beats the other stuff out there. Piece advice, keep some isopropinal alcohol to wipe immediately after you get parts together. If not you will have residue you cant get rid of.
