Building the new garage
Thought I'd share some of the progress on my new garage. The old garage was worthless and had to come down. I started by tearing out a small slab behind the garage and about 3 feet of old concrete and bricks that went the entire length of the garage by the fence.
My gf's dad and 2 of my buddies came over last week and we took out the garage in about 4 hours.

I'm getting a 24x30 with 9 foot walls and a 16x8 garage door.

Re: Building the new garage
Very cool! Last fall a few of my friends and one of my brothers did the same thing. We tore down a 20x30 rotten mess and put up a 30x39. One side has 12' walls and the other has 8'. We tore down the old building October 23rd and were using the new one the 2nd week in December. It was a lot of work and we only had time to work on it on the weekends. But it was well worth it. Good luck on the build!

subscribing and asking if you had any issues with local rules for being closer to the alley now.

Re: Building the new garage
The garage is going to be in same location in the alley. It is almost 10 foot from the front of the garage to my property line. I wanted to push the garage into my yard more but I am thinking about a big patio behind the garage

That'll be cool and minimize back yard mowing.

Re: Building the new garage
There's no such thing as a useless garage but they can always be improved upon. Congrats on the new one. Can't wait to see more. Cool houses BTW.

Re: Building the new garage
I have concrete!
Garage should be built with in the next few weeks. The company that is building it builds all the walls in their shop and trucks them out and installs on site. I threw in a pic of the house and the old garage. I have way too much time on my hands working nights. I'm not very motivated when I wake up at noon

Re: Building the new garage
I'm thinking of putting down some sealer to protect the garage floor. What products have you guys used and what were you results? I have heard some get slippery which would suck.
I stripped my basement floor last year and put the quickcrete basement floor epoxy on and it is not working very well. It chips and keeps on peeling up.

Quote:
treating concrete helping to reduce or eliminate damage to rebar and concrete - Painting the surface of concrete 2 to 3 times with a blend of 50/50 Double Boiled Linseed Oil and mineral spirits will seal the surface so that salt will not penetrate into the concrete - This has been used successfully on private driveways and commercial parking garages. i mixed it 50/50 with solvent and rolled it on. dont fuss with this just roll and let the concrete soak it up. this is what i use and it works 100%, i have resealed the shop twice since 2003.

Re: Building the new garage
I got mine from the concrete company and put it on as soon as it cured enough to walk on with a paint roller, its not slippery and has held up well and still looks great 5 yrs later ,it was clear and gave the concrete a dark grey tint.

Re: Building the new garage
Well day one of construction went very well! All the walls are up, garage door is hung and the roof sheeting is on.
Tomorrow the singles go on, the rest of the siding and all the trim work. I'm gonna call my buddy back home and have him ship my Blazer when he has a Semi coming this way. I am super excited! Did I ever mention that I like beer?

Re: Building the new garage
Small progress. Electric is in and half the outlets are wired and 12 light fixtures are hung. Outdoor lights and the rest of the outlets should be done this week.
After all the electric stuff I get to start digging a huge patio and sidewalk

Re: Building the new garage
Well I got the Blazer home last night. The auto transport dropped it off in Lincoln which is about an hour away. She drove great on the highway after sitting for so long.
I changed the oil today and will start driving her to work. The Blazer is the main reason why I built the garage in the first place. We have all the outlets wired up and installed, the outdoor lights still need to be wired and put up and the patio needs to be formed up, but the humidity sure puts a damper on progress.
