Accuform Dash Cap

I installed an Accuform dash cap on my 83 C20. It was not a good install.
The openings for the defrost vents and the trim piece were too small, and the entire cap was too small for the dash - so there are small cracks in the pad in these areas from the force fit. One of the plastic studs from the trim panel snapped off because it was under too much pressure from the undersized opening of the dash cap, causing the trim panel to not fully seat in its recess.
Also, I installed the cap on the dash on my work bench because my dash was warped out of shape from all of the deterioration.
Every time I turned the cap over on my workbench (finished plywood, varnished surface) the paint would rub off the dash cap. I had a can of SEM paint handy since I was changing the color from brown to tan, so I was able to touch up - but it was a lot of touch up. The pad does not cover the entire area around the instrument panel, so that needed paint also.
For $96 delivered from JC Whitney it was no bargain.
Next time I will just have the local upholsterer recover the original dash.

Re: Accuform Dash Cap

Re: Accuform Dash Cap

Here are some pics of the Accuform Dash Cap. The opening in the original dash pad for the VIN was cracked, split, and warped badly, so I did a makeshift epoxy job to try to hold it together - which is why is looks so lumpy.
