Is it true? could it really be???
Tease shot!
Hopefully she will be in by the end of the month! First time I tore into a motor, learned some new stuff. I got a Awesome mechanic friend helpin me out with this. We thought it would be a good idea to tear into it some and see how things are and to give me a run down of a motor. For the last couple months(?) my truck has been down at ETs_c10 lot waiting to be fixed. At first me and Joe *mechanic buddy* replaced the valve stem seals on my old motor and new plugs in. Thing ran AWESOME. Finally it wasn't smoking. Then we delve deeper and found out that the timing chain was REALLY Stretched out*no biggie*. Then after running it around it started knocking down below. He checked all the "cheep" stuff to no avail. But during that time, 60ratrod gave me a offer I could not refuse! Basics of it is a 305 bored out 30 over, used, but rebuilt at some point. Also with the deal is a 268he comp cam along with new springs, lifters, timing chain, Edelbrock Performer*iirc* and a couple other goodies! for a SCREAMING DEAL! So after monkeying around I think ole red will be moving again hopefully by the end of the month!! I couldn't be more excited! P.s. ratrod I haven't forgotten about the fenders/hood. Since I went pink my PM box is full and I don't want to lose the stuff I saved. So I should be back to the blue side soon so I will PM you. But if its OK with you, sometime next week me and Ellen will come up. But I will be PMing you ASAP. Thank you very much again! P.P.S Yes I know, the three leged wonder motor stand is not that safe. Heck, I am just happy to have a reason to use one! Lol and its not mine and its taking up space for free so I cant complain! lol

Sounds like you are learning alot and having fun with this. Alot of people shun the 305s but they can be a decent little engine without spending alot if you know what to do. I too have a running 305 that I'm doing some inexpensive up grades to until I can get a bigger cubed motor down the road

Re: Is it true? could it really be???
Is there a thread dedicated to nothing but 305 tech? I just got a 85 with the 305 and still wondering what cool things i could do to it, i would love to hear what people are doing to these engines...

Re: Is it true? could it really be???
The best mod for a 305 is to replace it with a 350....
I like that you're trying something with it. I'm interested in seeing how much better it runs VS a stock 305.

Re: Is it true? could it really be???
yup.. you can build up a 305 but its so much better to go with a 350.. the best thing you can do is get a 350 because theyre a dime a dozen and youll be getting way more bang for your buck. im not nocking the 305 but if you want to build it up, start with a 350

I heard you can stroke them out to 347 ci. Just do it just like a 383.
