'69-'70 INNER Grille Experts Needed,...

I have the original complete inner and outer grille assembly out of my '70 stepside.
I also have a NOS inner grille that I ordered in the 90's for a '69 lwb truck that I had back then.
I took the NOS inner out of the box for the first time tonight.
It's actually a '70 inner grille painted black and silver from GM.
(more like a '69 grille)

My original '70 inner grille appears to be painted solid black,... with just the silver highlights on the raised rib sections of the grille.

So what is the "correct" way to paint a 1970 inner grille?
I'd like to use my NOS grille assembly since I have the outer grille also,... but I think I will need to repaint the inner grille.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: '69-'70 INNER Grille Experts Needed,...

If you read the facts section from RED BOOK it says the only difference in the inner grills was the six horizontal ribs above & below the bright center piece. Two years ago I had a conversation with a retired GM truck worker at the plant in STL. We discussed the grills and the parking lights. He claimed that at the end of the 69 year production they had a shortage of 69 grills and the amber parking light lens. But had already received the newer grills (70) and the amber bulbs n clear parking light lenses. And to prevent backup on the production they were told just install what was available. He said because of that some of the early 70 model trucks ended up with actual 69 grills when they came off the line. If that is true, GM may have had the same inner grill part # to be used as a replacement. I probally didn't help much but it could explain a box marked 70 NOS would have a 69 grill??
