now, i'm not complaining, but he has a 5" drop in the back, and mine is lower then his is. i've using a western chassis 5" flip kit, so shouldnt my drop be only 5" in the back? my springs are a 4 leaf pack. i know his tires are 27" tall and mine are 28" tall, but that would only be 1/2" difference between the fender and tire

like i said though, i'm not complaining

but i was just wondering

I thought his was 4" drop leafs? If so, your 5 - his 4 + the diff in tire height should be about 1.5-2".

he does have 4" leaves, plus another inch from the drop shackles

I asked before, but why do you keep calling it 5"? Didn't you do a flip? Isn't this supposed to be 6"?

Someone correct me if I wrong.

I do have 5" in the back, 5.25 if you want to get real technical. 4" leafs and shackles. BTW, for anyone who asks, the shackles only dropped it another 1.25", not a full 2 or 2.5 like they call them.

I have did the math, got it wrote down somewhere how to exactly tell how much rake you have on these things. By my calculations, I have exactly 3/4" rake.

Oh... I forgot he had shackles. Hhmmmm, when I did a flip kit on my friends 84 w/5 leaf spring pack(this was back in 92), we got 6" of drop from stock height & I just recently did a guys truck & it was 6" as well. Maybe on certain trucks the springs settle more than on others?

While I don't pretend to know all.... their add also states that the c-section doesn't require removal of the bed because the 'top lip' has a 90deg outward bend. I just got one of these kits for my 74 & it definitely requires the bed be removed & does not have a 90deg bend @ the top. I'm not sure about the amount of drop 'cause I've also always heard that flip kits on these trucks equal 6" drop. I'll know the answer when I get around to dropping mine since I've got stock measurements to compare with.

My flip gave me a good 6-7". I have a 8 leaf pack though from a HD 1/2ton or 3/4ton. Same pack thats on my 78 with the HD 1/2ton suspension. Mikes truck looks like it only has around 4" of drop.

This is odd. After sleeping on this, This is what I came up with:

If you move the axle from under the spring pack to on top of it you are (theoretically)physically moving it @ least 3". Using the springs as a C/L, measuring from the bottom of my stock spring pack to the bottom of the axle housing = 3". Divide that measurement in 1/2 for the axle centerline then multiply it by 2 because your now moving it to the top of the spring.

Now just add the thickness of the springs and that should equal the drop. My 74 also has the HD option w/8 leafs & = 2.75" + 3" of axle relocation = @ least 5.75" of drop. Now if Mikes estimate is correct on the rear shackles & I add 1.5" to my total I would have approx 7" of rear drop (which would equal westerns).
