Speedo is 10mph off.

For example, when the speedo shows 20mph, I'm actually going 30.

Has been this way since I bought it.

Can anyone tell me how to go about fixing it?

There are different "driven" gears in the transmission so make sure you have the one with the right number of teeth for your truck tire/axle configuration. They are different colours to help. Look at this link for help

I have the same issue and hes correct...I went from 308 gears to 373, Its not hart to swap the gear you just need to pull the tail shaft housing off the trans..you dont loose hardly any fluid..maybe 1/2 pint took me about an hour

Re: Speedo is 10mph off.

On some automatics it's easy enough to remove the tail shaft housing as mentioned but in a standard transmission it's not as easy to remove the tailshaft. At least it wasn't on my saginaw 3 speed manual.

On mine, I was actually going slower than what was showing on the speedometer so I got a driven gear with fewer teeth to increase the speedometer speed. I did not have to change the drive gear inside the tailshaft. And, I got mine at the chevy dealer for around $7.

Here's some other sites.

On this site scroll down to find you transmission.

Hmm, I though you only had to remove the tailshaft to change the drive gear, not the driven gear.

Re: Speedo is 10mph off.

great info saved to favorites as this will be a modification I have to do since I now have 37" tires. My only concern is having to change the drive gear because A. I have a manual transmission and B. I would have to remove the Transfer case to get to the gear which would suck.

Re: Speedo is 10mph off.

Try one of these. Unscrew your speedo cable. Screw on the adaptor. Hook your speedo up to the adaptor.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Gear-...Q5fAccessories
