Installing Divorced 205, but I need your input - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here and consider my 486 build complete. So here is what's next. I've had a D205 since the before my motor build and now its time to start working on it. I have a few ideas on how to mount it, but I want to see if any of you have a better idea. I know for sure that I am going with NorthWest Fab 205 cable shifter.

The TCase is a Dana 300, but that is the same shifter for the 205

Here are some of the ideas I have found:

Those do look sturdy but personally I would want something on the bottom of the transfer case so stuff will hit it and no the case.

I am liking the way the last example rotates the case a bit counter clockwise and helps keep the front output from hanging real low. Being a divorced case it will be mounted further back so as to make the front driveline angle a bit less extreme. You could easily add a lower guard to keep it from getting bashed.

My truck has a 18" lift kit. The frame rail is 40" from the ground, I don't think anything could hit the T-Case, lol. Unless someone t-bones me(knocks on wood).

I'm thinking the first design, I am thinking more of a horizontal position for the tcase.

im thinking that the last one would be easiest to r@r (looks like it would drop rite out), and its got the shifter bracket on it ! i like that !!! but like sanitysbane said id like somthing on the bottom of it. not for a shield but for support. the 4 bolts on top dont look like enuff support for that heavy beast ! id build a cage arround it like that last example. just my opinion

I have a pic somewhere of my crossmember. I'm using a Ford 205....

And the bolts that hold it up are what the factory uses, they are some pretty decent sized studs, if it works from the factory it will work for me.

I think these type mounts would be stronger than hanging off of an aluminum th350 or th400. And as far as something hitting it, These things are stout. They could probably take a hit from a 30lb sledge.

I will also be installing a divorced 205 on my 83 i believe when i convert it to a 4x4.
