Engine Bay dress up ideas

Anyone here got an inside line on fender and firewall covers for a 68?

I recently dressed up my engine, but now my engine bay is holding my truck back. Other than pulling the engine and painting it, is there anything out there that can make it show worthy.

I remember seeing a truck down at Heatwave last year with chrome covers for his fenders but I can't find them on the interwebs nowhere.

Any info would be great.

Re: Engine Bay dress up ideas

well i would say take your front end off and paint each peice individually also i wouldnt go with the chrome inner fenders i heard some complaints about the heat from the engine messing the chrome up and so shiny when you open the hood to work on it and the sun hits it whata blast so just my 2 cents also does any one have any pics of 71 72 brake lines for on the front crossmember that would help alot and sorry dont mean to hijack your thread i like 67 68 the best out of the chevys best of luck to your engine bay

Re: Engine Bay dress up ideas

take the inner fenders out one at a time and clean and paint them/ while you have them out the side of the engine the frame firewall anf core support are all easily easily accessable to clean and detail

Re: Engine Bay dress up ideas

Buy new inner fenders unless you can fab and repair yours. Theirs a repair piece out there for the core support where it rusts out, can't remember where I saw it though. Then wet sand everything and paint and polish. I was in a hurry and just sprayed everything with Rustoleum hammered metal black paint before I put back together. Looks good for a daily driver. Piant everything like steering column and tube, Brake booster and frame and all. It makes it a lot nicer than the color of surface rust. LOL

Ok, I have a question... How much of a difference is there between the 67-68 grille-to-rad support and the 71-72 grille-to-rad support? I really like that cowling...

Re: Engine Bay dress up ideas

The chrome inners can be purchased at Outback truck parts in Spring, tx. But I have heard that the fit is sub-standard. If you don't mind repops from china then Certifit in Houston has new ones for like $32 bucks each. I bought a passenger side and the fit was pretty good.

Re: Engine Bay dress up ideas

If you do the covers like Hart Rod, you'll have to lower your AC condensor and brackets and the dryer/filter and tubing. On my 68 they stick up above where those nice super clean looking covers go, plus the little core support mod that Hart Rod had to do. I hate more work. But it does make it look so clean. And I like the idea of more air going through my radiator.

Re: Engine Bay dress up ideas

I removed my inner fenders, well... inner fender... I replaced the battery acid rotted passenger side. Then degreased the drivers side... shot them with some chassis semi gloss black paint, and reinstalled. That's my engine bay in my avatar.

Also degreased and shot the A arms, crossmember and front frame rails. Drop a sparkling clean 355 SBC in there, and DONE!

My truck has original paint from 1972, and has some dents and rust spots... so when I open the hood, the first reaction I get is... "Wow... I wasn't expecting to see that..."

Re: Engine Bay dress up ideas

Thanks...

I also left the undercoating over spray on the firewall as well... I wanted the "farm truck that hauls ass" look... and that's what I got.

However the bigs and littles on wide ET slots, kinda give it away.
