I guess the price was right ...FREE!

I tossed the rotten center caps but they had a capital "A" in Italics in the centers, any idea who made these rims? They also came with some unusual lug bolts with sort of off-center sleeves to fit my lugs (see pics). They are solid aluminum / magnesium alloy I guess. Very beefy but lightweight.
They came off a 78 GM truck but had been sitting for a while. Since I swapped front ends (1970 - 6 bolt to 1971 5 bolt) they should fit no problemo.

Now I need a rear end off a 71 or 72 w/ 3.08 gears and coil spring. Otherwise need suitable axles but I heard the there were 2 different size axles on the 1970 trucks so I don't really know what I should be looking for...?

Back to the rims, there is a bit of pitting, not really serious but what do you figure is the best aproach? sand them down and polish then clearcoat? I've been doing a bit of googling but I mostly come across places that just want to sell me stuff.

I got the same wheelsoff the same yea truck lol and you have the same color bed/tailgate as me, WIERD!

Anyhow I started with a red scuff pad and soapy water, then a bottle of eagle 1 etching mag cleaner. That cleaned it good. After this step if you really wanted em lookin' good you could do some sanding filing. Theres a write up on this...I polished mine right after the etching mag cleaner with mothers alum. polish

The end result sure looks good, curious to know what you used when you polished your wheel with the Mothers alum. polish...........arm power, hand drill with power ball, etc.?

probably spent total time PER wheel from start to finish, probably a lil over and hour, if I get the chance (still in the shop) Imma do some sanding filing because there rough aruond the edges. Do yourself a favor and go get some eagle 1 etching mag cleaner to spray em. Save your arm lol. Depending how nice/and how much time ya wanna put in em, spray em scrub em polish em with the mothers alum cleaner.

I had everything at home. scuff pads, mothers, and the etching mag cleaner I use on my 4wheelers motor after they start getting orange from the mudstains baked on

1 bottle will probably do all 4 wheels. But you MAY pick up 2 bottles, its about 6-7$ a bottle.

OK, thanks a bunch folks, Ansen Sprints. Hey Shane, I still have the 6-bolt rear end, its gotta go, either the whole thing or axles. I was looking at a disc brake rear end off a 79 Cadillac Seville being sold locally, but looked like too much hassle. Probably gone by now anyway. Time flys when you are spending money and money flys when you are spending time!
