windshield removal?

Wondering about this, seeing how I'll be doing my own paint. The front is cracked and will get a new one, the rear is in good shape. Aside from a BFH, is there a tool I can buy or is it better to take it to a pro?

Cut the rubber seal off with a razor knife and glass should just lift out

There are some great threads on this if you search the site - I'm getting ready to attempt windshield replacement on my 66, but I've read the 60-63 wrap-arounds are better left to the pros

Hard to tell but it appears yours is a 62. Removing it is easy, as stated above just cut the seal and lift it off. Putting it back in is a different story. I'm only aware of one forum member installing his own successfully. I've done about a dozen windshields in my lifetime and I could not get the one done on my 1960.

I did same as you, pulled it myself at home, painted the entire cab, and then hired pros to come out and do it in the shop. They had to bring out a third guy, and afteward said they would never do another one without bringing it to their place of business.

here is what i do:
like the others said if you want to save the glass use a razor and cut the rubber around the outside to remove.
you can also do this if you just want it out and don't care about the rubber either..
if the rubber is all dried out and cracked you will probably want to buy a new one anyway.
If the rubber is decent and relatively new, and ONLY if the windshield is cracked/broken, and you want to save the rubber...
pick a warm day, and get a friend and a number of prying devices (the wider the better-so as not tear up the rubber) work your way around the inside top, with your friend applying pressure on the glass peel the rubber back from the pinch well. start on one corner and work your way across, with the pressure the windshield will slowly start to push out- DO NOT do this if you want to save the glass, I have never got one out this way with out cracking the glass in more places.
also make sure your friend uses leather gloves, or his feet-shoes/boots- while applying pressure, in case it breaks on you.

the rear looks like a small back window. smalls are tempered, and can take quite a bit of pressure before they shatter.
pull out the small rubber lock strip from the outside, then start at a corner and pry the rubber up and in while pushing the window in as well, once it gets started and you get about a 1/4 of the rubber over the edge the window and rubber should push out (into the cab). once again I recomend a leather glove on the glass for safety.

It's not that bad taking it out and in bud.
