Re: LS valve covers

Thanks, I have an 87 swb,w/an Ls-1. I hated the coil packs, & the 4 screws on top.
Yes, they are made out a solid billet, & no you can not have a cad file. The hardest part, was finding the 12 point 10-32's that hold the cap to the base.

No problem on the cad file, I'm pretty sure I can design my own easy enough. (with some changes to reflect my style of course). The highest form of flattery is someone copying your ideas
How and where are you relocating the coil packs?

Re: LS valve covers

No worries, sorry if I came off a little harsh, didnt mean to, its just I'm always getting asked for artwork. The machining was the easy part, it was creating the model & making sure everything was going to look just right was the hard part. I haven't decided on where to move the coil packs just yet. They shouldn't be to hard to get out of sight though.

Hey, No biggy. I totally understand how long it takes to make the model work out just the way you want it. Program the toolpath and then actually set it up and run it.

Do you have a build thread? Pictures? I'm just wrapping up the paint on my son's 86. We already installed a TBI 5.7. Now I'm thinking about putting a 4.8 with a 4l60e in there. Probably will be after he trashes the current engine, I am collecting parts though. I am thinking the custom valve covers would be really nice.

Those look great. What goes in the center where the two small holes are at?

Re: LS valve covers

A medallion sits there, I still have to make those yet. I will have something soon, they will be at the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville in a couple of weeks. I had the valve covers @ Goodguys in Columbus this past weekend. I had alot of interest in them.

Re: LS valve covers

Is there any room for airbrush and maybe some neon lights on those valve covers? Rhinestones?

Re: LS valve covers

I bought a set of relocators from MAST MOTORSPORTS. I know you may want to make your own, but sometimes for a part that no one will see, it's easy to just buy from somone who has already wasted the money on R&D and test fitting for you. You'd spend more "value" in time designing them than what it would cost to buy them, not to mention the materials and machine time.

Re: LS valve covers

I've seen those, I don't want to see the coils at all though. I might put them in the inner fender's, or behind the dash, I have plenty of room there. I don't know yet.

Do you have a link for the relocators? I couldn't find it on their website.

Re: LS valve covers

I love the work you did! you do indeed have some talent!
I wonder if their is a way to make valve covers like yours, but make a false section above a plate so that the coils aren't being splashed by oil. Then house the coils in side, then put the top plate on like you have it and just have the wires coming out of the covers. or would that look stupid or be wayyy to tall? Lol

Re: LS valve covers

This link shows what they look like from the front side. They also have a kit to make your TB look more like a carb.

Re: LS valve covers

Cool, if only their was a way to not have the vents on the top. maybe small "louvers" on the sides. but I guess there would be a ton of heat from those things.

Wow 1200 for a set of valve covers. Imo I think they look tacky with wires hanging out of the valve covers. The first set look better.
