MONROE Shocks?

I need 4 new shocks for the Crew Cab
im looking at 4 MONROE Monro-Matic Plus Shock Absorber

anyone have experiance with those are they good, junk or Decent for the price

they are $80 for 4

this is for a dayli Driver truck and will mostly be used on the highway
also have a look on the KYB GR-2® / Excel-G shocks they are $23 for the front once and $35 for the rear

really wanted Ranchos but way out of my price range $200 for 4

I've always had good luck with Monroe brand. They are a fairly close stock replacement in my eyes.

I've heard several people say that as long as they are "Gas Charged" shocks, it won't matter, they will last for a long time...

I am getting ready to buy Monroe Gas-Charged shocks from O'Reilly for $16 each, so let me know if I shouldn't either...?

I would personally go with the KYB shocks. Monroe's are junk compared to just about anything. Especially Sensa-Tracs, their "special technology" is basically an engineered leak inside the shock, instead of a building a properly valved shock.

If they carry them, KYBs are quite good for the money.

EDIT: It looks like O'reilly carrys them.

They may be good shocks.
But monroe gas are $17 each x 4 = $80

These are $42 EACH!

In my opinion Monroe is junk along with Gabriel.

KYBs & Bilsteins are 3 times better. You get what you pay for.

GMTGMT Bilsteins are made in west germany...maybe you can get a better price than we can in the states.

Thanks im going to buy the KYB from Rockauto
because we have very bad roads here the town i live has official the worst roads in the country

I don't know about GmtGmt, but my current shocks are probably original (from 1978!) so even "crappy" monroes will be a step up.

i think mine are original too (1984) leaking and just plain bad

but i have had very bad exprice with Bilstein shocks and struts
my buddy bought some quite expensive once for his car
installed them the front once where so stiff that i could just have installed a pice of iron insted for the strut. the rear bounced like crazy
the car was undriverbell. he bought a lowering kit for it after that that came with some good shocks and struts dont remember witch brand but it was very nice to drive after that

got monroes on my truck they ride excellent with or without a load.

No argument from me on buying quality parts.
But I guess when the bank account is low,
the only option is as-good-as-possible... ya know?

i live in the city of New York and Monroe are the cheapest you can get by far here.. If the roads are like here where you are run like hell from them get KYB or something better than Monroe

Maybe you can try TireRack.com? They have KYB GR-2s for $23/pc for my 87'.

I've run monroe's on several things and never had a problem with them, IMO gabriels are worse then monroes and last no where near as long.

Had a set of garbeil gas ryders on a 76 chevy truck and s10 they sucked, there were barely a step above no shocks or busted ones. Now the highjackers/air shocks were decent they done the job.

I ran the gasmatic or whatever on the front of a camaro they run good and smooth, run sensatracs on the front of my monte carlo and air shocks from monroe out back best riding car i ever been in. My wife's 2000 monte carlo with the struts on all four corners ride stiffer and rougher then the monte carlo i had.

I think dad has gabriels front and rear on his 84 and it's rough. Rougher then my 88 k1500 which has the yellow monroe HD shocks in front, air shocks in back, and dad's is white shocks in front and gabriel air shocks out back, and is alot stiffer.

I run the same psi in the air shocks as well about 25-30 psi unloaded, nothing in the bed, around town, in his truck my 88 and the 85 monte carlo I had.
