Heading to Lake Tahoe and then Reno

I am going to Lkae tahoe tomorow with my crew cab for the Hot Auguust nights Tahoe show and will probably return home on Saturday night and then head up to Reno for the show on Monday and will be staying at the Grand Sierra there. You will not be able to miss my truck, probably the only crew cab truck of that era there. I have got it all detailed and ready for the drive up. I have finally received my new license plates too. Stop by and say Hi.

Hey you will drive through my town if you are taking Hwy 50 to South Lake Tahoe.

Word of caution: Lots of CHP on 50 especially on Fridays, so let all the knuckleheads blast past you and get busted. Enjoy the drive, it's a nice area.

I will be going by your way, probably about 9:00 in the morning, don't want to be in the afternoon traffic. I will wave as I pass your way.

9 A.M. - you should be fine for traffic.

The Train Station on Mother Lode Dr. is the spot for breakfast if you need a greasy spoon.

Have fun and take lots of pics!

That's a beautiful truck. Should be fun up there - we might be up there in a week if my neck cooperates. (A long time - 8 hours - to be sitting in a car with a sore neck)

If you're staying at the hilton...err...GSR (it'll always be the hilton or MGM to the locals), you'll probably see an orange 3 door crew cab. No clue who owns it, but it's a sweet truck. I'll look for yours, that's a sweet ride. Can't miss my truck either, it's a bright yellow '70 4x4

Will you be up there all week? My friend and I are going up for the weekend on Friday afternoon and he has been talking about building a 4 door truck like yours for a long time and he would love to see it! You have a beautiful truck!

Re: Heading to Lake Tahoe and then Reno

I lived in carson city (30 miles south of reno) for 12 years. (up till about 5 years ago) hot august nites was always a great time, & when i lived there they still had the huge swapmeet (now it's in sacremento) & the whole deal was a 4 day blast. That & the junkyards are what i miss the most, but i wouldn't trade living here in "gods country" for anyplace on this planet. john

Re: Heading to Lake Tahoe and then Reno

It started out life as a Suburban but was converted to a 3 door cab in the early seventies for use on a farm I was told. I got it as a 3 door and it ended up being a 4 door truck.

Here are some of the trucks at the show.

Re: Heading to Lake Tahoe and then Reno

Not as long as you cleaned it up. I was stopped at Placerville getting my breakfast on the way to Lake Tahoe and when I came out there were about 5 people looking over my truck, and one of them was laying on the ground looking under the truck. i did want to hand him a rag to clean up the frame.

A few more pictures from the show, I loved the small trailer that was up for sale at the auction. It did not sell as it did not meet reserve of 10,000

Question Re: Heading to Lake Tahoe and then Reno

Those late model Tahoe wheels just don't look right do they? I have always thought they would be sweet on our model but those don't look right to me. He cut the front center out for the hub to stick through it, it looks like!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Heading to Lake Tahoe and then Reno

I saw your truck in person at the GSR and it looks awesome!!! I love the interior! Are those out of a newer Duramax or 4 door? Also I really like how you did the doors so they meet together flat in the middle, and curve at both ends, that just looks so right. That thing was definitely center of attention. How does it drive???

The seats are out of a 2002 Chevy extended cab truck. The rear seat folds up for storage. The truck was driven to Lake Tahoe for there show and then driven back home and back to Reno on Monday the 2ND. The truck had no problems at all and drove like a new truck. I averaged 13MPG for the trip which I am happy with. I heard a lot of people that were experts on my truck describing how it was built and some were right but the third door really confused them.

Re: Heading to Lake Tahoe and then Reno

Hope you have a great time, enjoy the ride. We use to go to Reno and South Lake Tahoe a lot when we lived in Vallejo.

South Lake Tahoe is a beautiful area.

Breath in some of that high mountain fresh air for me, this hot humid air in the flatlands of Missouri is really bothering me this year.
