Hello, This is my first post on this forum and I am hoping to get some advice and opinions from you guys, as this is a veeerrrry unique situation and I am trying to decide what to do with this truck!!!!!

The long and short of it:

In 1974 my Father purchased a brand new K20 Chevy Pickup truck from a dealer here in Iowa. I still have the Chevy pickup catalog that he used to circle and mark the options that he was interested in. As a matter of fact, I road along with him the day he picked up the truck!

One of the first things that he did to the truck was had it rust protected by Ziebart. He did this to all of his vehicles. He also took off the original intake and carb (which I still have) and put on a Edelbrock intake and a Holley carb. He also purchased a topper for this and mounted it by bolting it to tapped blocks of wood that he inserted into the stake pocket holes, thus avoiding any extra drilling/mounting holes. He lined the bed with carpet and took a sheet of plywood & hinged it at the tailgate for a protective bed liner. He owned his own auto repair shop and had a big parking lot, so at some point he decided to mount a Western Plow on this so he could plow the drive every winter. After that, the truck pretty much stayed in the 3rd stall of his repair shop and was only really used when it snowed!

My Father passed away almost 6 years ago now, and I have driven the truck very little. I sold the topper and the plow that was on it. Since this truck was Full-time 4 wheel drive, I had lockouts installed. I replaced the shocks. The original tires that were on it were starting to crack and dry-rot, so I put $700 worth of new tires on it less than 200 miles ago. I did keep the original tires and the spare under the bed of the truck is original.

The truck has 25,934 original miles on it. That’s it!

The truck has the original paint job. No body work has been done to it. It has the typical rock chips around the wheel well areas. There are some dings, dents, scrapes and scratches in various areas. This came with a dual gas tank, but I have only been using the drivers side tank. For some reason when you switch to the 2nd tank, it does not work properly, so the gas has been drained from it. The factory AC does not function. Due to the age of this, there are also a few gaskets that need to be replaced in this as well. A little leaking around the oil pan etc…

So, at this point, I am sharing some photos and looking for input on this, feedback, suggestions, etc.

Also, with the rock chipped wheel wells and the fact that the paint is so old, it would be hard to match the paint up. So do you leave it alone or repaint it?

honestly u can't put a price on that truck...keep it in the family.
that too, u will never find anther truck like that.
id enjoy it and take it to truck shows and watch others droll!

Im kinda in the same boat, my grandfather passed away 3 years ago. In the will he left behind his low mileage 1978 long bed silverado 2wd to my uncle. My grandfather bought it new from our local car dealer. I just bought it from my uncle for 500bucks last summer because he didnt want it nor my cousins.
My uncle doesnt think to much about vehicles @ all. My grandmother is just glad it stayed in the family, now its my next project next month.

Just keep the truck.

Believe me, I have been debating over this for a long time now. I am actually more of a classic car fan! I have considered cutting some other things loose, but the problem is pending bills that we don't have money for!

GOOD GOD that is clean if I were you I would hold on to it, but to each their own. I would say to the right person you could probably pull 8 out of it. TO THE RIGHT PERSON. But being the color not being one of the popular colors I'd say to the general public you could pull 5k around where I'm at.

A truck like that, that has been restored, is worth ~8k or so. Sadly, even with low miles and being clean etc, it is all original and does need TLC. It is worth so much more sentimentally than monetarily, I would not fathom parting with it personally. But it is a personal choice I suppose. If you personally choose to sell it, realistic value I'd guess at 3k or so. Age does take its toll on vehicles, even with no miles. It will just be easier to rebuild it than a normal old rust bucket that is so plentiful for the 1k price range.

I understand the bills situation, but there has to be another way. If you sell it, you will probably never get it back, or at least in the same condition. I would only sell it if all other means to come up with cash have been exhausted. Heck, drain the 401k, second mortgage, second job, sell a kidney, etc. That is a very beautiful truck, even the color, and the sentimental value far outweighs the monetary value. If I was allowed to buy another car, and had the money to blow, I would plop an easy 5k for it.

What was the question? Oh yes, i would definitely pay up to 8K because i'm the type that would want a truck that needs no work and is in great(for it's age) condition as opposed to to a $500-1K clunker that needs work; Time is money to me. Plus i'd rather drive and use them than work on them.

In my opinion, truck is in really good condition.

Keep the truck...... Nice Impala tho! I had a 73 2 door sedan (not the rear window like yours) I bought it with only 9,000. miles on it. I tried to sell it for over a year, I could not sell it for $3000. That was in 1993 ish. Lost it all together in the divorce. I have no idea what happened to it. Sell the Impala, you'll prbably get more for it than the truck! Keep the truck

I have an original paint 76 sport...the paint is tired but the stripes and the truck are original ....

original trucks will only increase in value...like waterfront land ...they are not making any more

what i would do if i was just is keep it.

but if you really want to sell it
put it on ebay and have a reserve at like $8.000 and starting price at like $3000 to see if theres any interrest in the truck. then you can lower the Reserve price if it dosent meet.
this truck is a really good candidate for a truck thats going overseas and theres alot of international buys on ebay looking for lowmillage unrestored trucks and cars to sell at twice the price overseas
