Alt Pulley Help w/ Long Water Pump
Alright, I just ordered an Old Air kit from GMCPauls and I want to keep the compressor on the passenger's side so as to keep a clean install with the hoses. My truck is a '71, but the engine came from a '75 400 sb. I have a long water pump, so the alt is currently on the passenger's side.
Where can I find an alt bracket that will fit a long water pump and put the alt on the driver's side? I want to keep a "factory look" so I'm not interested in a March/billet bracket system. Here is a pic of the current pulley setup: Any ideas??

Re: Alt Pulley Help w/ Long Water Pump
I'd just put a short pump on it along with the short pulleys. I don't know of any factory brackets that will work with the long pump.

Re: Alt Pulley Help w/ Long Water Pump
I'm looking into the kit but I'm trying to keep the AC compressor on the passenger side for a clean install. Those Alansgrove brackets are nice, but kind of pricey. Is anyone running those pulleys?

Re: Alt Pulley Help w/ Long Water Pump
Alright, so I talked to Paul Jr at GMCPauls and he said that the compressor is on the passenger side for both long and short water pumps...it just changes the style brackets.
Would it just be easier to get new pulleys for a short water pump setup? |

Re: Alt Pulley Help w/ Long Water Pump
I ordered the low profile Alan Grove brackets for the AC and Alt to fit my alum etec heads. I'm excited to get the Old Air kit and get it installed. Arizona is hot this time of year.

Sweet, cant wait to seem it all mounted up.
Can you take a few pictures of the brackets by themselves & maybe a few mounted to the engine, this will be a good reference for other to see. Scott Last edited by AustinScott; 08-12-2010 at 06:43 PM. |

AustinScott,
Will do. I noticed there weren't too many pics of those brackets on this board. I'll post initial pics as soon as I get the kit. |

I use the Alan Grove sets for big and small blocks, can't beat them.
