If you leave it as is yes it looks like a good deal, but don't buy it thinking you can build it to the nines

Ya I would leave it as is, the guy said its around 350-375 HP. Figure thats good enough for the truck, big improvement over the 305 thats in their now.

In my opinion, looks like a pretty decent deal. The 781 heads are the open chamber/ oval port and flow pretty well. Maybe you could see if guy has any reciepts and give the shop that did the engine work a call. Good luck.

It looks like it's probably an alright deal.

They are used. In his ad he says the motor has 5,000 miles on a rebuild. They pulled the heads to check it out.

Re: Need Opinions, Should I maybe purchase this motor?

the first motor looks real nice good price too and i like the fact that you can go see the second one run and the pics looks like he has a set of gauges on the motor, as for the casting number try google and see what comes up. id say go look at both if there close i just let one go a few months back it was a gm goodwrench 454 from an old 80 somthing box truck for $900 and that thing was in worse shape then either of those

Re: Need Opinions, Should I maybe purchase this motor?

Just got off the phone with the second guy, the heads on the second one are 049, he said they were similar to the 781s? Also he said it would be a good pulling motor thats about it. It was pulled out of an RV when he got it and then he rebuilt it and its been on the running stand ever since.

Here's the 049s http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=40273

If it was out of a running vehicle I'd say maybe, depending on comp ratio you may have a stud or a dud

Re: Need Opinions, Should I maybe purchase this motor?

Basically the heads it has flow the same intake I very small amount better exhaust but have larger chambers than the heads on the first motor I don't think there would be a compression problem so go for it if you feel it runs good on the stand

Re: Need Opinions, Should I maybe purchase this motor?

Larger chambers mean lower compression not a big difference but by good pulling motor I think he meant it's not super powerful but high compression pistons and a good head port could def fix that is the bottom end cast or forged?

Any particular reason you would choose the second over the first? Besides the fact that you can hear and see it run?

Re: Need Opinions, Should I maybe purchase this motor?

Could I swap out the RV cams in either of these motors for something a little better to get more power out of them and get a better rumble or?
