Straight axle conversion from 88-98 Forum

I have a 1992 K1500 and a 1986 doner 4x4 silverado. What does it take to put the 1986 straight axle into the 1992?

i don't know if you plan on lifting the truck also, but i've used this kit before. http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/new...duct.php?id=64
then you if you are using the axle out of the 86 you would need to change to a passenger side drop transfer case. the best one to use if you plan on keeping your computer happy would be a np241 out of a 88-91 (73-87 bodystyle) fullzise blazer of suburban. for steering i converted to crossover steering at the same time and used the stock ifs steering box.

So if I use the 700R4 trans, transfer case, differential, springs, etc. out of the 1996 and purchase this kit this will work? What other parts would I need?

Did you mean taking the drivetrain out of the [B]86[B]?? Although you already have the donor truck, it might also be a good idea to look into using a ford solid D44 or D60 - you won't have any transfercase issues with your stock drivetrain then.

I want to take the front and rear suspension and axles, trans and transfercase from the 1986 and put them in the 92 and use the 86 tires and wheels. All these components have been rebuilt and the tires are also new.

I believe the trans you have is a 4L60 or 4L60E in the 92. You might need a manual trans computer for the truck to run right getting rid of the electronics in the tranny.

Re: Straight axle conversion from 88-98 Forum

I either have the 700R4 or 4L60 (same trans) but I do not have the 4L60E.

So again if I use all the 86 parts how do I rout the exhaust on the 92 as if it was on the drivers side (due to the opposite drop transfer case) it would run into the fuel tank?

Re: Straight axle conversion from 88-98 Forum

I found a site where a guy did the same conversion I want to do. He did not mention the exhaust though.
