Dual exhaust kits

I've got a '68 lwb with a 350 and stock exhaust manifolds. I'm looking to put some dual exhaust on it, I'd like to just get a kit and do it my self if I can, also what about mufflers/glasspacks etc? I'd like a good deep tone but not ear screeching loud, I've heard alot about flowmaster 40 series are these any good?

I called Pypes earlier this week about this system , in the description it describes it as aluminized steel but it is actually stainless

One question I have regarding all of these kits, is will they fit on a truck that has the gas tank moved to the rear under the bed? When I called Magnaflow, they could not give me a definate answer and felt that it probably would not fit.

I was just reading the description on a kit from either summit or lmc, I forget, but they said the kit was designed to fit around a normal sized spare tire stored under the bed, so I guess if your tank is smaller then that, then I guess it would.

For that much I would get a good exhaust shop to Fab one up to you liking

My setup is very similar to yours (68 LWB with a 350) I am running "50" Series Flowmaster mufflers that I am very happy with. Nice deep tone without being too loud and virtually no interior noise/resonance.

I looked at lmc's kit, true duals with either glass packs or mufflers, priced decently too, how loud are the glass backs? Anybody had any issues with quality from them?

I personally cant imagine ordering a exhaust kit. I have seen a few guys install them. Never seem to fit worth a crap.

And always seem more expensive than my local shop.

i've liked the lmc kits fit is alot the installers attention to detail


dont see those 400-500kits as a great deal

my theory on exhaust is anything but blowmasters

i agree 100% massed produced kits seem a wast to me my local shop did my exhaust for me it was simple it sounds great i got to pick the tips i wanted not just some standard kit. and have not had any probles with it. it takes away all the stress of what if it dont fit right, damn this bend is just not quit there, etc. just my 2 1/2 cents

If I could I'd take it to a shop, but all the local shops quoted me at around $500 for the setup I want, and it's not really in the budget, so a kit for $250 with a little extra sweat can work for me.

yeah in that case it would make since if you will be happy with the kit then i would say gofor it and thats and extra 250 later on that you can spend on something else(for the truck of course)lol. if i remember that sounds about right think it was realy close to $500. as long as you dont buy in then decide u dont like it dand pay the 500 anyways. ive learned that the hard way a few times.

Summit sells a system made by Hooker Headers for under $200 without mufflers. I bought one for my Burb and fitment was good. Came with all clamps and hangars. I used Thrush Turbo mufflers. The kit I used was from manifolds back and they make one for headers. Pipes were heavy gauge mandrel bent aluminized steel. I have about $260 total in the exhaust.

I just redid the exhaust on my burb. I used the JEGS Street Rod Exhaust Kits part number 30671 (2 1/2"). I also ordered two cherry bomb extreme mufflers and some universal exhaust hangers. I mated it up to a set of Headman headers. Took a bit of time to do just right, had to go around transfer case and chose to exit out the rear, so I needed to go over the rear axle. The exhaust note is pretty nice, loud when you get on it, and mellow at cruise. I did not add a H or X pipe, but could in the future if I feel like it. The pipes are all mandrel bent and have slip fitment. I used my Millermatic 140 to weld the seams. Nice and tidy!
