windshield replacement

so is it hard to actiauly replace the windshiled in thease type trucks. ive got an 82 an the windshiled is very badly cracked. and i can get a new one from lmc wit hthe built in antenna for 129$. i seen the people replace the one on my 01 z71. took him about 15 mins but were talking diff generation trucks here

so whould it be hard for an 82 or something i could do my self with some suction cups an silicone?

oops i chose wrong forums im very tired could this be moved to the 87 section please

Re: windshiled replacement

I would shop around locally to see what it costs. It's not "that" hard, but if you break it you bought it.

I'd be very surprised if it cost you more than $125 to have a real glass guy sell and install you a windshield.

Re: windshiled replacement

Just had one replaced in my 84 and it cost me $160.00 - called several companies and the prices ranged from $160.00 - $350.00... I have tried removing and installing one just once which I ended up cracking it. I personally will let the professionals handle it..

Re: windshiled replacement

I replaced mine, and I can say it was a lot easier than the back window. Get the windsheild stick tool from LMC, as it will make it much easier. No suction cups are needed, just a friend/helper to set it in place after installing the gasket. The real PITA is the bead moulding, especially in the middle. Scaffolding or go-go gadget arms will come in handy for that. Check local yards first! Just make sure to look for 81-87, since the 73-80 glass was thicker. If you find one, cut it out with a utility knife, or you will end up cracking it. I paid $20 for mine, and it is in perfect shape. If you can't find one, get the LMC one. Either way, get a new gasket/bead moulding kit from them. If it turns out to be to big of a chore for you, just call a glass installer and they will install it for you. The best quote I got was $350 total, or $150 labor.

On Safelites website, go to the model pull down and select pickup c10. It allows 81-87.

Re: windshield replacement

One of the local glass guys down quoted me at 197 bucks for the windshield and installation. As stated above if they break it, or it leaks it's on them.
