Wiggles 78 Cheyenne Big 10 Slow Build

Well I've been tossing around the idea of creating a build thread. I didn't want to because of how slow my progress will be but then again I wanted a place to really be able to keep my build together in chronological order other than my pictures folder on my server. So here it goes if only for me this is the build thread on the 78.

Here is the back story on the truck that I know of. Its a 1978 Chevy Cheyenne Big 10. The Owner before me (sort of) bought the truck new from the show floor. He and his wife used it to travel the us and camped in the back. Later on it was parked and driven every once in awhile till the original owner passed in the early to mid 90's. After that his wife drove the truck about 5 miles a month to his grave site, and then to the airport and back to get the cobwebs out. She later passed in the early 2000's then the truck was handed down through the will to the children. There it sat other than the occasional start up and cruise around town moments. The truck was ALWAYS stored inside the garage. The motor interior and every thing else on the truck are 100% original to the truck. The seat to my knowledge has never actually been sat on bare as its had a saddle cover seat cover on it the entire time. I bought it from the original owners kids on Aug. 6th 2010. So in my opinion I am the 2nd owner because the truck was never sold only handed down due to death in the family. I found the truck via my father who is friends with the original owners son. So here it is when I bought it it had a red bug deflector and a topper. I quickly removed the topper and the bug deflector. that was alot of typing.

Right now I'm doing a little bit of engine clean up and saving up for the aftermarket stereo that does mp3 and what not but looks like the original. LINK This winter I'm going to try and do some minor work and save up for rust repair and a new paint job.

Haven't had a chance to do much as of yet as I've said this is a S L O W build. I think I may have found a home for my truck over the winter though. 12 x 30 storage shed for 75 a month. I think its very do able. I think I'll have to ask for forgiveness rather than permission on this one though.

well it looks like the build thread will go even slower than expected now. After some convincing of the wife We are buying the dilapidated house next door and building a new garage in the spring. So the body work on the truck will have to wait till next fall. Its give and take and at least this way I'll have a garage with enough room to actually do the work in.

Well the truck got mad at me today. On the way home I heard a tinging noise when ever I took a right turn. I have yet to find what is busted there but when I looked under my hood I found many more problems. Looks like my intake gasket is shot and my return on the power steering pump is shot. It also looks like my timing chain cover is leaking profusely too. I've had a small leak for sometime but couldn't track it down through all the grime looks like they've all decided to pop at once. I'm thinking this is a sign to go ahead and pull the motor and trans and go through them now if the wife will let me is another story.

Wow read through my short slow build thread. Plans changed house was bought torn down and then I was told by the bank that my property would be worth too much with the garage so they wouldn't loan me anything to build it. The wife and I just had our first a month ago today so the truck hasn't had much done to it. I was craigslist snooping tonight and may have tracked down a solid bed to replace mine for about 75 bucks.

Picked up the bed and it's not so great. I have a trailer that needs a new bed so I guess I'm not out much.

rust behind wheels rust in 2 spots in bed floor towards the tail gate I havent priced repairs but I was thinking I could get a new bed cheaper than the repairs
