Quick off- set question (lowered 69 fleet)
I know this has been beaten to death.....
I have searched and searched and I am pretty sure I have close to a handle on what I need. I am about to order some 20x8.5 and 20x10 raceline wheels. From what I have gathered I need 4.75 rear back spacing. (raceline confirmed) I have been broswing 72 Black Beauty and N2Billets builds with the same size wheels and nate went with a 5.5" front back spacing and N2Billet did a 5.75" back spacing. (raceline suggested 4.5" front but I don't want issues and maybe they don't get that the ECE spindle will push the wheel out)) The truck will at the most have a 5/7 drop in the future. I am going to run a 29" front tire and a 30" rear and I want the biggest lip possible and the wheel puched out bound as far as possible. So do I run a 5.5,5.75,4.5?

Re: Quick off- set question (lowered 69 fleet)
I have a lowered '69...Early Classic spindles, etc.
I ordered some Wheel Vintiques Vette-style rallye wheels...15x8 up front with a 4-inch backspace. Out west, I have 15x10's, with a 5-inch backspace. Those backpace measurements seemed to be perfect to me...in looks and in action. Doing it like I did, centered the wheels on the hubs and the tires wore w/o any issues.

Re: Quick off- set question (lowered 69 fleet)
Stick with Nates (72BlckButys) backspace numbers.
Look at his thread. They fit pefect for a 4/6 or 5/7 static drop. Nate and I spent alot of time measuring for those wheels!

Re: Quick off- set question (lowered 69 fleet)
Also,... are you leaving your truck 6-lug?
If you change the rearend to the "wider" 71-72 5-lug rearend,... your rear backspace numbers will need to be greater than 4.75".

So the 5.5 in the front will work better than the 5.75?(will it give me more or less lip?) Think I will have any issues with the 29" front tire or is there plenty of room? Thanks for the help...Time to order

So you will have more lip than a 5.75" BS. (only 1/4") Nates front tires are 255/40-20's. (approx. 28" tall). 29" will be too tall if you plan on keeping the inner fenders. Do you ever plan on bagging your truck? The problem with low static drops is you still have to be able to turn the front wheels. Bagged trucks you can air up and drive away. Nates truck is dropped 4.5" in the front. That works with the 255/40's. My red '69 is dropped 5.5" (and still has the inner fenders),... but I have a small 215/70-15 tire that measure 26.9" tall. This is really close. Plus I haven't driven it much to see how road worthy this combo is. I would try to stay with a 27" tall front tire unless your are pulling or modding the inner fenders.

Wonder how bad it will rub...this isnt a daily driver and I could realisticly take it easy turning sharp if need be. I agree with track width.....looks funny to have 4 20x8 with teh front sticking out. Thats why I am going custom wheel....a little more $$$ up front but no spacers and hopefully fitment issues.

The problem is they have to be inside the fenders enough to NOT rub during suspension travel,... and steer inside the fenders. Both the front and rear wheelwell, don't realy allow that unless you are tucked in a bit. Plus with any old truck,... you have to take measurements on both sides of the truck. Seems like the body isn't exactly centered with the chassis. (1/4"-1/2" off in some cases) Nate's backspace numbers were a compromise of all the things you want. Clearance and good looks. Another thing we were trying to eliminate,... is having the front track width WIDER than the rear track width. To me,... this makes a truck look terrible. (Again,... just my opinion)

Re: Quick off- set question (lowered 69 fleet)
completely with what Keith has posted above.
The reason for Lucy's differing BS was due to Lucy being bagged. The extra .25" more BS allowed him to air out and let the tire go higher into the wheel well. IMO, there's no other BS I would have run on my staticly dropped truck than the 5.5" BS. (Unless I went with bags and it would have been 5.75" ) It all kind of depends on what you are looking for in your truck. As Keith mentioned we wanted to make sure that when you look from the front or rear of the truck you didn't see one set of tires/wheels sticking out farther than the other. One thing you need to consider is what type of tire are you wanting to run. In this instance, size does matter? **DISCLAMER** Each truck, drop, and setup may be different, so the best bet is to measure for your specific application. (Not really directed at you Cole, just folks in general. )

You can't use these numbers with a 15" rim or with a a different width wheel. (7, 8, or 10 for example.) This discussion is about a 20x8.5 up front and a 20x10 in the rear, specifically.

Re: Quick off- set question (lowered 69 fleet)
Also....
The way the Vintec (Soft Lip) is designed, it looks as though the front wheel on my '69 has very little lip, where if the center spoke would be placed like the original Vintec, the lip would be deeper on the front. The rear wheel... plenty of lip.

The fact that it was a soft lip shouldnt effect me when oredering up the wheels and choosing the same backspace. Its just the wheel design and offsets/dimensions won't be effected?

Re: Quick off- set question (lowered 69 fleet)
Correct... just wanted to specify that if you were looking at the amount of lip on my wheels compared to what you will be ordering, there's really no way comparison due to design differences.
