Which Sanderson headers will work for me?

Hi guys-
I am ready to buy some headers for my truck and need some guidance as to which set will work best for me. I have a sbc 350 mounted in the rearward position in my '65. I am debating between the Sanderson CC3 or CC11 headers. I know that the CC3 which is a block hugger will fit but don't know for sure whether the CC11 which is a mid-length will fit. I spoke to ECE and they stated that the mid length may hit my firewall with the rearward engine mounting location. I spoke to Sanderson and they told me they would try to get the mid-length header to fit because it looks better and has longer tubes which will help with performance. Does anyone have any insight for me as to whether or not the CC11 will for sure fit or not? If I can't find a definitive answer I will probably just go with the block huggers so I don't have to worry about shipping headers that don't fit back and forth. i already did that with the hooker shorties that I bought first.

Thanks,

Re: Which Sanderson headers will work for me?

Both look to be a good header. I have not used them but am in the market for some myself. The price is not that bad either. I'm not sure about the no gasket deal. Well i'll be following you on this one to see how it all works out for you. Post some pic's once you make your choice and get them installed please. Good luck and have a great day...

AAA had to read the fine print LOL = Copper Collector Gaskets are recommended for all Sanderson headers

I don't have first hand experience with Sandersons on a SBC. I have however used Sanderson headers on a 5.0 HO Ford in my Model T. Great quality, fit and finish.

I eventually will be needing new headers for my 65 C10 (350 SBC & 4-speed Muncie w/ floor shift) so I look forward to the results of your inquiry.

Based on the links you provided (thanks) I would agree that the CC3 would work better, especially if you have or are ever considering a manual transmission. The centered design should keep the headers away from the clutch mechanism and transmission shifting arms.

I too was leary about using high temp sealer only so I used regular old paper gaskets, they sealed just fine.

Re: Which Sanderson headers will work for me?

I just put a set of CC3s on my '63, but the engine is in stock V8 location...they worked fine like that.I do like the CC11s for the "look" though.

Re: Which Sanderson headers will work for me?

I decided to go with some Hedman long tube headers instead of either of the Sanderson sets. I did this because I don't plan on lowering my truck any further than the 3/5 it has on it now. I also wasn't sold on either of those two options from Sanderson for both fitment (mid-length) and performance (block hugger) reasons.

I received the new Hedman headers (HED-69268) yesterday and could not wait to throw them on the truck. Well, they fit perfect except the passenger side header contacts the rear of the lower control arm just above the bushing. So tonight I am going to modify the control arm to provide the necessary clearance. I will be cutting the material off above the bushing and installing a piece of .125" plate in its place I believe the clearance issue is being caused by the 73-87 control arms that I am using. It looks like the stock arms would clear. These headers also would not fit with the engine in the forward position, luckily mine is in the rear location.

Here are some cell phone pics of my installed CC3s. the 1st and 3rd pic are passenger side, the 2nd pic is the driver side. Drivers side looks really close to the frame rail, but it has at least 1/2" clearance.

For those of us running a manual transmission it would appear these would eliminate any problems with the clutch linkage. The other advantage of these is it allows the owner to route the exhaust for maximum ground clearance.

Thanks for posting the photos Darkhorse, that's a big help!

Re: Which Sanderson headers will work for me?

Yes that is true. Afterall these are the headers that are listed by Hedman as fitting these trucks.
