Them are nice. I wonder how reliable they are. Sure be upset to pay that much for a guage and it's a fishing weight. I bought a brand new in the box compass mirror with compass/ temp. And it constantly gets confused with N & S. So often, it bugged me till I pulled it back out.

Re: GPS Gagues - Speedhut - HAs anyone tried these yet????
That's pretty cool. When I use my TomTom unit, I set my cruise according to it instead of the dash speedo. The TomTom will show 75mph where the dash shows 77mph.
Would be interesting to see how well those gages worked. Dang...after looking at this more, I see the fuel gage is even programmable to work with factory or aftermarket senders. When I put the new gages in my dash, I had to make one fuel sender out on my factory one and the aftermarket one. Something stopped working last week and my fuel gage shows full all the time. This is in a Jeep CJ7. Mike

What happens when you go into a tunnel and lose the satellites, can also be dicey in some very built up areas too. Also my tomtom can often take an age to acquire enough satellites.

Re: GPS Gagues - Speedhut - HAs anyone tried these yet????
agreed GPS technology is not perfect but I run my Garmin quite a bit (I drive 45,000 miles a year) and its pretty trustworthy - I would say 97% or so
The thought of not having to change tranny gears if you changes tires, wheel size, transmission or rearend gearing is appeling on top of that I have one less item to run outside the cab. All of the displays like 1/4 mile time, etc are just neat adders I am going to send off for some information

I thin line of sight will be a problem. Can't rely upon GPS in the city.... just too many things to block the signals.

Re: GPS Gagues - Speedhut - HAs anyone tried these yet????
Interesting GPS application.
I always tell people who are unsure of their odometer to plug in a GPS and go for a ride. I spend more time in my boat than most folks do in their cars. It is an apples and oranges comparison but I can't think of a time since the mid to late 90s where I lost my GPS signal where I needed it. Keep in mind this is on a lake with no tall buildings or similar objects in the way to block the satellite. The one bridge I go under most often is only three lanes wide. I don't always lose GPS under there but it does happen. In a longer tunnel in a city you are going to lose your signal. The speedo on my current boat crapped out a few years ago so I just use the GPS speed. Here in MN - the state where nothing is allowed - some of our 10,000 lakes have speed limits that are heavily enforced. One thing I would worry about more than tunnels is jamming. It is getting common for folks who drive company vehicles that are tracked with GPS to purchase a jammer and plug it in to fool their boss. While I've never seen jamming on the lake (no surprise) you can bet you'll see it when you are driving in a congested area. Google "GPS jammer" and see how many are out there and how cheap they are.

I ordered one last night for the Green '67. I put an S-10 5 speed overdrive trans in it and I needed an electronic speedo anyway.... I won't get to install it until I get back from The All Truck Nationals in Kansas City, KS The first of the week. I did some measuring and I think it will fit in the tach hole without too many issues. If it works out I will do a writeup on it. I have a couple of other ideas that might work also. LockDoc

Re: GPS Gagues - Speedhut - HAs anyone tried these yet????
Well it looks cool and I just sent them a e-mail. Would like to see it in my 71 dash. I live out in the middle of nowhere so it maybe OK but the buildings downtown Greenvill and Charlotte maybe a differant story.
I have actually thought about mounting a GPS in a old dash before so it would show you the map and the speed. Leave the rest alone. Start with a glove box and cut the holes I needed to and mount a GPS in it for speedo and hit the button and have the map as well.
