3 speed tranny leaking?
My 3 speed manual tranny is leaking fluid inside the bell housing. It seems to be leaking where the bell housing connects to the tranny. I don't believe it is the rear main seal on the oil pan. I just don't know what I'm looking. I know nothing about this area of my truck or anything about transmissions. I need some old truck wisdom please.

Re: 3 speed tranny leaking?
If it smells like 80W-90 (stinks really bad), it's probably the input shaft bearing retainer seal. Not too terribly bad to get to, just pull the trans, remove 4 bolts on the bearing retaining collar and pop the seal out. Let's hope it's not the rear main...

Re: 3 speed tranny leaking?
Thanks Dark Knight. Is that something that can be fixed? Will someone like O'Reily's have the parts?

Re: 3 speed tranny leaking?
Easy fix. After you pull the trans. You remove the 4 bolts holding the front retainer & remove the retainer. Do not try to remove the shaft. The seal is in the retainer. If the gasket is not torn you can reuse it. The seal is avail at the local parts store.
