Re: PAINTING ENGINE ECT while still in the truck ?
The first thing to do is to clean the engine with Simple Green or something of that nature. Rinse thoroughly. Take off your fan shroud, your fan, alternator, powersteering pump, carb, remove plug wires (remember to mark them). If you're painting valve covers, leave them on. If not, remove them. Use aluminum foil to wrap any areas that you don't want to get paint on. Tape it if you have to. Pick your color and paint. Now there's a lil more involved than that, but that's the short version. Just make sure engine's clean and tape off what you don't want paint on. Oh yeah, always take the radiator out, clean and paint seperately. Remember, this is the short version, no pics.

Re: PAINTING ENGINE ECT while still in the truck ?
it's a god awful pain in the butt!
yes it can be done but you are virtually 6 bolts away from pulling the motor away and doing it the "right way". "easy off" oven cleaner will work incredibly well but dont get it ANYWHERE that you want paint to stay it will eat anything it touches..

Re: PAINTING ENGINE ECT while still in the truck ?
I did mine but then I pulled the engine anyway for a different reason. It is a pain but can be done as mentioned earlier. I used an air drill with various wire brushed to get in all the crevices. I also raised the engine and pulled off the motor mounts to get at all the underside. Be prepared to get dirty.

Re: PAINTING ENGINE ECT while still in the truck ?
it can be done . This motor has never been out of the truck. but had the top part of the motor stripped. Makes it a lot easier. but where there's a will, there's a way.

Re: PAINTING ENGINE ECT while still in the truck ?
It's not done bud. The actual engine was on fire. We just haven't rerouted the wires yet. Thank you for the compliment.
