What sparkplug wires/cap/rotor to get?

I have who knows how old wires/cap rotor. I plan on replacing them.

I heard on here somewhere that mid 70's vette wires are good because they are a lil longer?

Im planning on putting a 'curve kit' in the dizzy also

355 vortec
12* btdc(initial)
500 edelbrock 1 3/4 turns out

not impressed with power at all lol

My machinest said to worry about the advanced timing (full vacumn at like 2200-3k)?

Im going to check that now (34* at 2200rpm)

Re: What sparkplug wires/cap/rotor to get?

I use AC delco plugs, I like taylor wires, but recently I used msd streetfire wires on one of my old cars and am pleased with them so far(you have to make these up yourself but it comes with the clamp and is simple to crimp ends on), I ordered them from jegs but seen that my local o'rielly's carries them in the store ( I think they will only work on hei dist.) ....as far as cap and button I always just get them at the local parts house. good luck

Re: What sparkplug wires/cap/rotor to get?

There are different quality levels of plug wires. I bought some Wilkinson's when I was in Tucson, because the station recommended them. I've bought bulk wire (stranded-core) and made my own. I've bought the cheap stuff where you had to assemble them to have a cheap set. You get what you pay for, and that applies to the result.

I'd go with an 8MM wire, that is a radio suppression wire so it won't interfere with your radio.....or your neighbors TV. I was introduced to Standard Blue Streak components by one of my favorite uncles....a long-term mechanic. But, I don't use points and condensor any more, so it doesn't matter. I have an ACCEL HEI on my truck, so the cap and coil are ACCEL. A good brand of cap...and you can do an eyeball comparo....will show you differences in quality. The cheesy cheap crap isn't worth taking out of the box. I like NAPA/Echlin stuff for rotors and caps.

Re: What sparkplug wires/cap/rotor to get?

I just installed Taylor 8MM wires last weekend. They have to be cut and the boots put on, took about 2 hours to install.

Re: What sparkplug wires/cap/rotor to get?

I have used Taylor wire on a bunch of my old car customers cars. They have the end going to the spake plug made, and you need to finish the end at the dizzy cap. I have a crimping tool I have since I was a kid that I use to finish the ends. On both of my trucks, I have these wires. I run them like on a mid 70's vette. The front two on both side are run thru the motor mount, and are hard to see when installed. i will look for a pic so you see what I mean.
