Speedo cable connection

I need to find out what year the upper end of the speedo cable changed from screw-on to clip-on, and I believe it was sometime during the run of the squarebody style. Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you.

I have a 74 cluster in my hand that is clip on and every other newer one I have seen is clip on style.

What year is the truck you are working on?

Re: Speedo cable connection

Thank you 68 TT. The truck I am working on is a 63, which uses the screw-on type. I am doing a transmission swap which needs a longer cable, and I am trying to find out how late I can go and still get the screw-on end.

It is starting to look like the cable might have changed when the 73 body was introduced.

I have a 71, it is screw on connector at the speedo, I would guess they made the change from screw on to clip on with the body change of 73.

Re: Speedo cable connection

Thanks Jeff. That pretty well narrows it down so I know where to look now.
