Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

5.149 Rear Parking Brake Levers for a 63+ 12 bolt 1/2 ton rear axle, left and right. Does anyone make these aftermarket?

Re: Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

Perhaps the following links will start you in the right direction. Not sure if you have self adjusters, but I installed the upgrade kit in my 1960 and it worked fine. If you click on the blue info button, it will open a picture of the parts. If this isn't the right application, changing the search parameters might turn up the correct version. Both the HW 2508 and 2509 and listed for a 63 Chevy truck:

If you don't find what you need let me know. I still have both complete rear drum brake units from doing my rear disc conversion. You're welcome to whatever you need.

Re: Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

markeb01 they are the same as what is on the front axle but the rear has a different lever for attaching the parking brake. I looked at other years as well but the same kit keeps coming up.

dean jendro I may have to take you up on your offer yet, I'll look in the books at work Monday to see if Wagner or Dorman makes a replacement unit.

Neither Wagner nor Dorman carries them, dealer only? Funny cause they make the bar that comes off of the lever and the oval springs but not the lever!

AreoTruck63,

What is the Dorman part numbers for the H bar and spring? Did you get the parking brake lever from GM with the parts number you mentioned?

Re: Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

Figured I'd kick start this old thread and ask if anyone ever located a vendor or usable PNs for the drum strut (H-Bar) w/spring and the park brake levers...

Re: Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

Parking brake levers are available from Obsolete Chevy and LMC. Spreader bars from Rockauto, as Dorman products. Note that the levers in some of the pictures wer for the self adjusting mechanism, not the parking brakes.

Re: Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

Googled these part numbers, they are the same 60-69 full size passenger models and 60-66 trucks. I think the difference lies in that they had a shoulder bolt to mount the levers to the brake shoe.

Re: Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

imo I would just grab that stuff from dean, and switch to self adjusting brakes at the same time!
if there is any difference in the shoes, I think it might just be that the hole for the self adjusting lever is a little bit larger than on a non self adjusting shoe.
maybe do a quick check and see if the shoes are the same 60-66, or if there is a different # for 64-66 for when theey added the self adjusters.

I just put the whole self adjusting brake set up from a 66 truck on my 50 chev convertible-it has 11X2 brakes all the way around..54 drums front ,56 drums rear.
I just ordered the new shoes for a 66 truck.

Re: Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

The shipping costs for all that metal would be more than the cost of the GM parts. I already have the Wagner spring kits and brake shoes which will upgrade the brakes to self adjusters, I simply need the parking brake actuating levers.
Thank's for the input jonz.

Re: Lever, parking brake shoe, needed

I took apart my rear brakes from my 1961 GMC Suburban and the spreader bars are both bent, one worse than the other. What would bend these?
