NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
Where do people get NOS parts in bulk from, how do you or a person obtain such materials?

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
These parts mostly come from dealers that have been around forever clearing out their warehouses. There should be an increase in this since GM is planning to close thousands of dealerships.

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
First come, first served. Get out and scout the small towns and ask around to find if they had a dealership that closed and may no longer be marked as such.
Around central Arkansas, we have a dealer who started in 1912, and moved several years ago. I'm willing to wager that there are parts still left in the building that didn't get moved....and may not ever be moved. Yep, they're still in business, too. Here in my town, there are two Chevy dealers that have closed/moved. But, both have been cleaned out and there are different businesses in the locations. But, if you are new to the process.....you just may be a bit too late.

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
As others have stated, dealerships are the only ones who may have it in bulk. Otherwise, you are going to have to hunt high and low for them. Also, be prepared to pay quite a bit more for NOS parts. I have $1600 in price and shipping in just a hood and the two fenders. Just an example of what NOS parts cost. All three parts were from three different sellers that I had to scour the land for. But, nonetheless, the do exist and are out there. Good luck!!

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
I know that NOS stuff is still out there, but just 15-20 years ago it was much, much easier to get ahold of at reasonable prices. I haven't seen much outside of this site in recent years.

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
Most dealers did not keep too many of the parts. They have to pay inventory tax on them. We have to pay the same tax to. Most have been sold back to a company that resells them. They are now called ROE parts by trade.(Recovered Original Equipment.) Most dealers have access to this site. We do also and will look it up again. You have to go thru a legitimate dealership to get access. We are not a dealer but we we sell New Raptors and Mustangs (racing Versions only) and have access thru FMC. I believe the name is Vintage parts. Been a while since I have been there. You have to know the part number and it gives the quantities left. As stated your only other choice is to call a dealer. Good luck. If uou have a number I can look it up. They resell GM,Ford,Mopar.
They have thousands Last edited by mbgmike; 09-22-2010 at 05:32 PM. |

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
My story is that I'm usually at least a day too late and a buncha dollars short of what I need to buy whatever it is that I just heard about......But, if it wasn't for the hunt....where would the fun begin?
One more viewpoint....if we knew where it was and it was stuff we wanted, would we be telling you?

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
Most of the NOS stuff left has been picked over or are the leftovers of the left overs. Many have horror stories of the last NOS 72 grill shells- scratches dents and dings coupled with poor plating. That begs the question, is the NOS worth the cost vs. poor quality that it is likely in. If it is truely NOS it has sat on a shelf for at least 30 years and has been banged, moved and shuffled quite a bit. Just from my parts experience with a dealership, most of these are not in the greatest shape compared to what people expect for show type vehicles.

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
Poor plating on a grille shell? They're all anodized when new. The chrome-plated items are aftermarket....unless you know something I don't.

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
You won't have much room for profit buying NOS parts and reselling. Most of everyone who has them, does have some idea what they are worth. It is a slow time, but if they don't sell them right now for good money, most owners keep the parts and will sell them when things turn back around. I support you wanting to help your family and understand, but if you don't already have NOS parts, you will struggle to make a go of it. I wish you the best of luck getting it started and the hunt of collecting NOS parts. Trevor

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
Chevroray- I mis-spoke when I said plating, when I actually meant anodizing, but the last ones are crap none-the-less as there are bad spots in the anodizing with rough spots etc. not to mention scratches etc. I have a shell that I am going to use on my 4x4 that is NOS and out of the box with NO visable damage to the box, it has two huge scratches in the filler portion that is covered by the bumper. This is very different from the unit I bought 8 years ago or the the other units I bought 20 years ago. We have arrived at the end of most of this stuff and are getting the absolute end of the line pieces both in quality and finish.

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
I looked through my 12 year old box of parts and I only had what I think are 67-68 NOS grille mouldings/hoops. I agree, NOS stuff is getting hard to find. I thought I had more stuff.

Re: NOS PARTS, where Can I in bulk?
The been in business dealer here in town closed it's doors last year just before GM started shutting down dealerships. The owner was one of my highschool classmates and I think he saw the handwriting on the wall. His was a small low volume dealership but he didn't have a lot of real old stock on the shelves. You have to be able to hunt it out and then have the ready cash to make the deal when you find a cashe of it. Probably not in WA state though as our inventory tax kills keeping stuff on the shelves just because it hasn't sold yet.
