Enclosed Trailers

Do any of you folks use an enclosed trailer for your truck?
I was tossing around the idea of getting one and I found some good deals on them in Georgia (Hurricane cargo), Would be a heck of a drive from Texas. We have Pace and some other brands close by and the prices are not too bad.
Really just curious if the truck would even fit in one and if there are any issues with using one.

Thanks

Keith

Re: Enclosed Trailers

I have an 8.5 foot wide enclosed. The truck is a little tight going past the ramp cables and the inner fenders but it fits (approx. 1.5 to 2 inches on each side). Now that I have one I love it. Its quite a bit heavier than the open trailer but as long as you have a strong enough tow rig thats no problem

Re: Enclosed Trailers

I get approx. 3 mpg better with my open trailer, but enclosed is nice to work out of between rounds with a work bench, power generator/lights etc. or to keep things/race truck locked up inside on overnight trips or a place to keep both you and the hot rod out of not so friendly weather.... plus it can be used as extra enclosed storage/garage in off season!

Get the biggest trailer you can safely tow or feel comfortable towing...you'll be glad you did!

Re: Enclosed Trailers

I have owned a couple for my truck and it is really tight. My next trailer will have whats called ramp overs. These are ramps that go over the wheel wheels then you should have 6 or 8 inches on each side. You must get a 8.5 wide trailer for these trucks and it would be best to have a removable drivers door, an escape door in the side of the trailer or winch the truck in and out.

Re: Enclosed Trailers

also notice all these guys have trailers with round corners or a V nose!!! if its square it will tow like a brick!!!!..I have a 24 V nose and round corners...also be sure to get the BIG axles if its got 5 lug wheels on it I walk away...remember your hauling a truck!! so 2 3500lbs axles won't cut it when you add the weight of the truck and trailer your running way to close to the GVW of the trailer..which means a shorter trailer life.,tires frame and what not....spend a little more now or pay later...

Re: Enclosed Trailers

My 66 SWB fits just nicely in my JimGlo.
Back the Nova out, drive the truck in, open the door and step out. The drivers side wheelwell comes off with 2 wing nuts and has to be put on before you close that big 'swing up' side door. But this thing is the berries!!!!

Re: Enclosed Trailers

That's a wild trailer Marv. That is what I call an escape door.

Hot trucks I agree on the heavier axles being needed but I disagree on the v nose round nose stuff. I prefer a flat nose with an extended tongue so you can put a generator on the tongue.

Re: Enclosed Trailers

Kevin I have the best of both worlds with my trailer its what they call a modified V it only covers about half the tongue I have a spare tire up front and I can still lower the tail gate

I think you mistook what I meant by round corners......if the trailer is a true square it will drag harder than one that has just the round corners pieces and roof

Re: Enclosed Trailers

I used a friends 38' gooseneck 8.5' wide. I had to crawl out the driver's window around my funnycar cage. Not too bad when I still weighed 145 lbs. Might not be so easy now.
