Crane or Edelbrock???
What are your opinions on Crane or Edelbrock cams. And can you recommend one model type that would be suitable for a mild boost to my 350?

I have heard bad things about the Eldebrock cams wearing out prematurly...however, my engine is in the 80 - 100K range and still has one in it...no problems as of yet.

i havent tryed the edelbrock cams, but have run a few of the Crane energizer cams. I have had a couple of 266 cams.....good idle, & low end grunt(I have 1 in my plow truck). I have the next step up in the kid's ranger(sb chev powered). Its 216 dur @ .050 vs 210 on the 266, & has a decent idle, but will like a little lower gears(3.73). the energizer 278 (222 @ .050) , i have also run.......choppy idle, & good midrange, but not a pulling cam for a truck. good luck, crazyL

Hey Tim,
I have always heard good things about Crane. I went with a Comp Cam XE262 about a week ago. My truck is still snowed in and I haven't tried it out yet!. I have heard that Edelbrock makes good stuff but the other companies seem to offer more powerful cam choices. All the companies have cam techs that will help you pick a cam based on your setup and intended RPM range. Good Luck....Jim

Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna call a shop in Winnipeg tomorrow to get a price on a 266 Crane .

Jegs has 'em for $109 including lifters. For a driver, I swear by them. For max power output I like Comp grinds better. Max power means max dollar, no scrimping anywhere. I can't see paying more for just the Comp cam than the Energizer cam AND lifters cost. Just remember that the two companies spec their overall duration at slightly different points when you compare the two. Use .050 numbers for best results. ie Crane 266 ~ Comp 260. If you want a Comp 268, you can run the Crane 272 or 274.
I like the 266 for a truck, have one in my 327, and will get another for my 427. My 402 has a Crower 270 cam which is about the same as the Comp 268 or Crane 272, and you wouldn't want anything more than that IMO.

Dubie, try Summit or Jegs. Wonder how the shipping would be to Canada from here. You can get cam & lifters for $100 or so. Crane has a good product. 260-270 dur.--- 450- 470 lift should be good for you.

I'm gonna call Softy's Speed Shop in Winnipeg this mornign and get a price on the Crane 266 cam. For me to buy any part from the USA, you pretty much take your price and double it plus 10%. After we pay the exchange rate, shipping and handling, duty, tax etc..... it really adds up. Thanks again for all the great info guys

I am running the 266 Energizer cam in my truck right now and am very happy with it. It has an excellent idle and pulls great on the bottom.
