looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
So, today is my birthday. I drive by this '66 every shift on my way into work. It never moves. I have wanted to stop and see if they want to sell it for the past six months but didn't want to be rude. They listed it today, on my birthday. I think its an omen. meant to be! Im going to look at it. I wish it was a V8 but I have my '59 and my '83 with the bigger motors. This would be fun to keep all original. What do you guys think? I'll get a better idea of the condition tomorrow when I can get over there. Bummer part is its only a mile down the road but its just outside of our fire district boundaries so we cant run over there on duty. I'm going to try to run over there tomorrow first thing in the morning.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
haha... me too! I have already been looking at offenhauser intake manifolds, bee hive oil filters and different ways to lower it. If I can pull off buying it, im going to shoot for lowering it about 2/4 or so, dressing up the engine compartment, maybe some new carpet and call it a driver.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
That's a very clean truck. I noticed the A/C cab right away too. Pretty rare. Probably has some pretty decent options... power brakes, maybe p/s. Does it say what size engine it has? You would think since its a '66 3/4 ton with A/C that it would have a 283 or a 327. Good luck!

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
That's a nice looking truck. First thing I also noticed was the factory A/C dash. If it's as clean as it looks that's a great price, and agree it won't last long. Good luck, and happy birthday!

Nothing wrong with that. I had one in my 65 and it was a lot of fun too.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
If I were just beginning to build my truck right now, I'd be very happy with an inline six. Easy to work on, very dependable and they look really cool with a bunch of vintage speed equipment bolted on.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
Me too, while I was shopping for a truck a few years ago I looked at a truck similar to mine, but with an inline 6 and I decided against it b/c I had never had a v8 vehicle. Now I wish I had gotten it. They're quieter, easier on gas, have enough power for a driver and just look more original to me...

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
Nothing wrong with a 6. It maybe be the sought after 292. Those things haul when they are souped up. It would be cooler that heck... You may have to go knock on their door now...

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
I'm stuck at work until tomorrow morning. :-( its frustrating because its literally right down the street from where I am. Can't leave our district and this is just out of our district.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
Yeah that must be frustrating. Maybe you could call them and let them know you are interested, maybe get some more information about it before you go over there tomorrow.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
haha. yeah, biting my finger nails for sure! Where do people get off not checking and responding to their emails for three hours?!?! I'm hoping they will maybe respond around five or six... the after work crowd. There is another '64 in town that is lined up as a reserve. but im digging this '66!! I love the color.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow
Well, i just got off of the phone with the guy. His uncle bought it new. So he is the second owner. He had the body work and paint done by a reputable shop here in town a couple of years ago. has new carpet kit in a box. has newer wheels and newer tires. He started it yesterday. It is a running, driving truck that just needs to be finished. I will be going to his house with a trailer first thing in the am.
