fuel problem?
last week when i was coming home from work my blazer started surging about a mile from where i get off the freeway. when i got off the freeway, my truck died about 1/2 mile before i got home. i am getting no gas to my carburetor. i bypassed the fuel filter i bolted to my frame, still no gas to my carburetor. i just pulled my mechanical fuel pump off my motor. (its a small block 383) when i pushed the lever on the pump, gas shot out. i pulled out the fuel pump push rod and it looks fine, the ends are square. it doesn't seem worn down.
my question is, what should i do next? i know i have about a 1/2 tank of gas. is it possible that the cam lobe for the fuel pump wore down? when i was turning over the motor there was no pushing or pulling from the fuel pump when i put my finger over the fuel line hole.

Re: fuel problem?
if you have the original quadrajet carb there is a fuel filter inside the carb where the gas line goes// that's a good place to check

Re: fuel problem?
it's a holley 670 cfm carb. tomorrow i think i'm gonna use my air compressor and blow air from my fuel line back to my tank. there might be some crap in my gas tank plugging my fuel line.

Re: fuel problem?
my truck quit on me like that and i wasn't getting fuel it finally got enough to run to get me home and i pulled the tank and cleaned the lines and the filter was so cloged u couldn't hardly blow through it and it was only on the truck for less than 500 miles, after that it has not missed a beat -just a thought-

Re: fuel problem?
Run a separate line on the input side of the pump into a can of gas and see if the pump
will pull it out to the carb. Be sure and check your oil level in case the pump diaphragm is ruptured. You wouldn't want gas in the oil. If you take the fuel pump off and have someone turn the engine over while you are holding the rod against the lobe it should move as the cam is turning.
