1971 Chevrolet Camper Special
Hello,
I have a 1971 Camper Special with the duel saddle tanks. When I bought the truck, the pervious owner did not have the keys for the two small doors on the sides. Well, I took it apart today and their was a small filler tube with a cap, nothing like the gas caps I am used to. Thanks Jerry |

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Camper Special
your custom camper probably has dealer installed tanks, or aftermarket pieces. They were very common 'back in the day'.

Can't tell for certain from the picture, but it kinda looks like a plain, old fashioned gas cap; like nearly 40 yrs. old.

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Camper Special
Yeah, what Longhorn Man is saying is those aren't factory.Any tanks filled through screw-on doors are aftermarket, which could have been installed by a dealership, owner,or other shop such as an RV shop. There were no factory saddle tanks offered except the driver side auxiliary tank in '72.The auxiliary tank was not included in the Custom Camper package, but an option in itself.

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Camper Special
Thanks,
I have seen alot of 3/4 ton's with these side doors and was just wondering if I could get some replacement parts. Over the years this truck had alot of the orginal items removed or replaced By the way, I have the tool box door on the passenger side of the bed, is their a company that sells a replacement with a matching pannel? Thanks Jerry |

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Camper Special
the tool box door is a very hard to find piece. At least, hard to find one worth having.
Even in the desert southwestern part of the US, they rusted up pretty bad. A company tried making replacements out of either plastic or fiberglass a few years back, but so few people would for over the money that they ended up killing the run. |
