Gotta smog soon... any suggestions?
The time has come again for me to smog my 77 C10. She has a stock 350/350 with all of the smog junk still attached. I recently installed an Edelbrock 1400 carb because the Quadrajet kept causing it to fail. Does anyone have any advice on how to help the old girl pass smog a little easier?

Pour some 99% rubbing alcohol or "Heet" gas dryer (same thing) into your tank with as little gas as you can get away with. It may run like crap but it will burn cleaner. Otherwise make sure it's good and hot before testing.

Or you can put some denautered alcohol in your tank with a little gas and it will pass with flying colors. Just make sure that after you pass the smog you go and fill up the tank to dillute the alcohol that is left in your tank.

I used to put in some methanol, lean it out and run the crap out of it right before it was sniffed in my 76. Then I said screw it and got historic tags

Re: Gotta smog soon... any suggestions?
Set the idle mixture screws for maximum vacuum.
Set the base idle to as high as they will allow in the test. Here it is 1100 rpm. Check with your testing station to see what they will allow. As stated earlier, make sure it is good and warmed up. Make sure you do not have any exhaust leaks. They really throw off the test. People have told me in the past to run it a quart low on oil when you take it in for testing but I have never done it. Supposedly it creates less windage tossing oil onto the cylinder wall so less oil burning.

Re: Gotta smog soon... any suggestions?
Max vacuum is the highest vacuum you see on a vacuum gauge while adjusting the idle mixture screws. 15 bucks at your parts warehouse for a vacuum gauge. Also do the timing, as mentioned.
